Lydia, that sounds really promising , she sounds like the perfect tutor.:)Doozergirl wrote: »My kind of plan. I LOVE going out to eat!
Just say whenever, I'll be there......It's called Kajaki, about a bunch of guys who run into trouble in Afghanistan when they wander into a minefield.
It's not exactly light hearted, be warned..
Seen it, had to watch through my fingers.... It was based on actual events, wasn't it? Think GDB's film suggestion is easier!
If anyone wants to look at some stunning photographs

My best hope lies with the filters on instagram, which are surely miraculous!:o0 -
Am I seeing a new business opportunity as a 'second diner' available to accompany those not wishing or able to dine alone?
No. You forget that most people dining alone will be paupers, with one small single income coming into an overstretched household.
My dining out budget's about £20/year and even that's pushing it.... I'd expect that to pay for 2-3 meals out.
There's no money for paying gigolos.I've been to tons of restaurants and eateries by myself and never had a problem. Always had decent service, not had a problem getting a table.
But you've not tried to do it as a single female, in a cheap place.
It's not just me, I've heard others say they've had the same treatment.0 -

You need a brand name. Something catchy.
For the male version how about :
Gigolo Lite
or
Gigolo A La Carte
Maybe we need a Uber-style phone app which broadcasts a lone diner beacon message to nearby other lone diners. [We'd need an exit plan for this - before the lawsuits arrive...]0 -
I'm a single female eating in cheap and expensive places and I've never been turned down. However, I would avoid Friday and Saturday if I was in my home area, work IIRC, I have always eaten out Mon- Fri. It doesn't bother me doing it, but I eat out alone enough with work to not want to do it for dubious pleasure. Meals out are social occasions for me and it's the company that makes or breaks it.0

Dinner Dogging?0 -
I quickly googled and found an article in the Independent that even mentioned it occurring:

I think AdultWork has got that angle covered !
A friend I knew used to sell his work on there. His work, being photo sets of niche topics.
One of them was pictures of girls (models) under the old style hairdryers you used to get, complete with cape. Nothing naughty. I was amazed there was a market for this sort of stuff - but apparently so.0 -

I can see a Friday/Fri conflict in your calendar there Bugs0 -

Maybe I'm just thick skinned but I just haven't experienced it.
It's probably in part because many times it's been in places where they are used to dealing with people on business and so dining alone, if not the norm, is common.
I too have read stories that say that single people aren't welcomed into restaurants. I spent years in catering and I would always treat a single person with exactly the same kindness and respect as a couple and a group. In fact a single person would probably get a little more attention from me as someone by themselves in that situation often seems to like a bit of a chat.0
