Rehi all.
Back in the land of Blighty from our New York trip.
A couple of impressions whilst they are still fresh...I'd be interested in other NP views, as thou are a learned lot
1) I can now understand why some might claim that NY (or specifically Manhattan) is one of the great cities in the world. The sheer mix of skyscraper skyline with city street activity is great; the history of the place is rich and varied; and the buzz the people get out of the Halloween parade or the Marathon is clear to see.
2) Is there a better executed memorial / museum than Ground Zero, both the water installations and the visitor centre itself. It is well worth the entry fee, though I can see how the cost might put some people off. The whole exhibit is well done, and yet so highly personal to those who lost their lives. The fire fighter stories were just one compelling aspect.
So...controversy time... Is NY a greater city than London? For me the answer is yes, but I suspect this reflects my ignorance about London more than anything. I confess I don't really get it yet.
DW and I really enjoyed our stays in NYC, and it's certainly a great city, but I don't see how you compare it to London. It's a bit like comparing oranges and bananas. London has more history, but NYC is livelier. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

It took me 2 goes to 'get' NY. I have visited London on more occasions, though only a few in tourism mode. It's too early for me to make an effective comparison.0 -
My memory of NY is saying "oh look, there's the Empire State Building" and thinking it would be five minutes walk away, then walking for an hour with it getting taller and taller.
I love the Skyline, and the steam coming out of the pavements, and eating in a proper NY deli. I thought the shopping was overrated though and genuinely prefer Selfridges, Liberty and F&M to anything there.
I like both cities, but for different reasons.
My new favourite city in North America is Vancouver.
Haven't been to ground zero. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

So pleased for you Doozergirl and family  or perhaps as you're feeling delicate :coffee: would be more in order. Will your new home be near to where you live atm?
Sue I do hope you've managed to get a bit of rest since you last posted. Sending you very gentle ((HUGS)).
michaels I hope you're feeling better now - but why are you doing DD1's homework? If she's struggling to get through it all perhaps it would be better to talk to her form tutor
I do feel for her. Our DGS is in year 5 and he and his parents are on the 11+ treadmill. And then when they get through they get such a lot of homework in year 7.
This was the third Wednesday morning in a row when I had to get the bins in in pouring rain (I don't feel I can leave them out in hopes of it clearing up, as they're so in the way.).
It takes only a couple of minute to do ours and our neighbours' (they're very elderly and their daughter usually has to leave for work before the bin men have been), but always seems so much more of a chore in the rain.
Ooh Generali I have a question for you! Our neighbours' grandson lives in Brisbane and she told me he's about to start secondary school, but he's only 10 next month, so I wondered how the Aussie education system works age-wise IYSWIM? He's at a Catholic school, which I assume would be a private one, so perhaps they are different? Or would it be like Junior High School in the US?0 -

My thank you button still isn't working
We didn't sleep with anyone. After four years, we would have been prepared to pay people(!) but our local councillor was great and spoke eloquently at the meeting and the head of the planning committee was encouraging and told us to keep plugging. Calls us "kids".
The head of the planning department, however, I'm not a fan. She over-ruled our planning officer four weeks after he said he was recommending approval.
It's really not easy.
Ivyleaf, tea would be lovely. We'll be our own new next door neighbours
I haven't been to NY, I love London. Still satisfied that I don't live there anymore, but I adore it. Doozer wants to take me to NY as he lived there for a bit, but I book the holidays and generally don't have the energy for city breaks.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'm still feeling really ill, so if I go quiet, you know why
In the process of drumming up some new business for the next few days, so hopefully will be really busy. We'll see.
We've decided to suspend our Romanian events launch until the new year, for obvious reasons.💙💛 💔0 -

Sorry you are feeling ill. If it helps, so am I. Food poisoning in my case. What about you?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

We finally got our planning permission to build our new home, at planning committee last night. The planning officers were still recommending rejection. Common sense prevailed and the councillors changed the motion to be for approval and they voted 10-0.
Congratulations:T, I remember this from when I was around more.
I stopped popping by because at one point it was so busy, I just couldn't keep up with who said what and what was happening.
In less exciting house news, my bathroom is still lovely:D and my kitchen is still a building site....fed up of the amount of dust and climbing over boxes of radiators and extractor hoods and living off microwaveable M&S meals.0
