We didn't get to see our DD's personal statement at all, either.

Talking like the young requires every other sentence to start with the word "So" interspersed with the words: like, basically, kool, mega, sick and for the female covered in hearts.

    So your second para becomes:

So Last night I had like a mega surprise when she suggested that creationism must be true because it was basically in the bible - I mean like I've nothing against sending the kids to a church school, kool, in the hope they will basically gain morals and a like desire to be mega nice to people but when they basically start believing it things become like more challenging. So we had to have a like lecture on how even Christians understood that in many ways bible stories are mega sick parables not supposed to be taken at like face value. So I guess like the Catholic church does have form when it comes to suppressing original thought, how kool is that?
OMG dats like mega kool ;)

Can't remember if we had personal statements in my day but doing and planning homework was definitely my business alone and I think I probably had contact with my parents once a term while at uni

This chat about contact/not contact suddenly reminded me of the old Irish mother's letter to her son:

Sadly something being funny is no defence from the politically correct police - only jokes about stale white men are allowed anymore.

No helicoptoring here. DD would not have dreamt of involving us in actions ( money was a whole different ball game).

It was only after she had started univ, that we learnt that the parents of her friends had written the offsprings "personal" statement. We did not even get to see hers.

OH did enable her year abroad, an internship in Italy with hot and cold running palace, farm and ski lodge f.o.c as the guest of a lovely (wealthy) friend. She declined:( and then disaster struck and she was unable to go at all). So our role was reduced to hiding our disappointment and supporting her decision to protect her health.

We had a few heated 'discussions' over Josh's personal statement but in the end, he did the writing, I checked it over (and then had a 10 minute defensive wailing thing because I objected to something), he did rewrites and then it went to the school to be checked...where they wanted to change pretty much everything and made it into something no begger could understand!

Josh took it back, reworded to include some of what his form teacher had said to include but in a way that everyone would be able to understand what the blooming !!!! it was about (no idea how she became a teacher, an 11 year old had better English skills)

I think if he had taken his form teacher's advise, there would have been no offers at all. The final draft was sent without being checked over by the school as we were right up against the deadline with minutes to spare, it was understandable, clear and without the mumbo jumbo poor English that his form teacher had wanted included (he was applying for music courses, she had crossed out anything and everything that had related to music in his personal statement, completely against the advice on UCAS about how to write a personal statement!)

James only showed me his personal statement after it had been submitted but he had had lots of help doing his with the head of 6th form.

Goodness knows what youngest will do, he rarely asks for help with his coursework, I rarely know what he is doing in his coursework (asking gets a "Why do you want to know" response) and the whole uni applying thing will probably be the same except for going to open days where he needs good old mum to organise transport and take him there as he doesn't independent travel.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Oh, I chat with the boys much more than this, James generally for him to tell me about what exciting things he has been up to or how little he has slept and Josh to tell me he has been to Asda again (weird child I know).

We of the RC persuasion don't mind a bit of ribbing; after all that's why Father Ted was invented :D

    Seconded :D

ETA I do remember reading that when writing the scripts they had to invent situations that couldn't possibly happen in real life or someone somewhere would have been offended and written angry letters :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
My huge spot looks like something normal now, I am not going to have to cut my head open ( or off) with a Stanley knife. Which is a relief :) . Maybe those antibiotics aren't so bad after all. I also used heal gel.

Happy Back to the Future day everybody!

Today is the year that 30 years ago featured in the film. OK, so hoverboards aren't quite there yet and we never did get to Jaws 19, but we do have payment by fingerprints and CCTV and some other aspects of the film (Sky News has been running a piece on this all day).

What weird and wonderful technological prediction would you make for 30 years from now?

Aren't we only about four years from the blade Runner setting?
So, not many off-world colonies (only one space station)
No androids (but about two million robots hidden away in factories)
    Animals not all extinct yet
UV not so deadly we need to only come out at night.
weather still normal enough we don't need umbrellas all the time.
    No flying cars!

The Cubbies are going to have to mount one hellava comeback if they are going to meet the prediction in the Film that they win the 2015 World Series.

Could still happen though, first since 1907
