Belated Happy birthday ivy leaf.
Antibiotics suck. I mean, for all the usual reasons. But, some how I have developed some sort of monster spot.....bigger than a tuppence, on me face while taking them. You'd think a side benefit might be clear skin, not WORSE skin. This almost looks like something worth going to get lanced.0 -

You jest. I have a friend with 3 at university who struggles to keep up with their assignments. Another friend acts as the alarm for her daughter at uni 200 miles away!At least she is getting a well rounded education.
Hmm. Kid3 who is the one that really shouldn't be at uni, has just changed courses. From one that is 50% coursework/ 50% exam to one that is all coursework. The uni approved the change because his coursework marks are far higher than the exams. Wonder why?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. lostinrates That doesn't sound good
Antibiotics are bad enough in the normal run of things without "extras"!
Hope you're ok this morning CK, and get home safe and sound.
GDB I'm really sorry if my comment sounded terse; it wasn't meant to, and I only noticed when I re-read it just now. I think it's because the sentences are quite short! DSIL was made redundant 3 times, then found a job working with kids and loved it, so is now training as a children's nurse, which will eventually pay more than he was earning in the job he was doing just beforehand.0 -

Our input was limited to
a) financial
b) transport with luggage at start and end of year
With DD
c) Visiting her in Finland in her year abroad
With DS
d) Proof reading dissertations/reducing final essay word count
e) Talking him through shopping for, and cooking, a roast dinner, then later full Christmas dinner. I only found out later that his role in the cooking was to sit on the worktop relaying my instructions to the rest of the flatmates.
Most importantly
f) Love and moral support.
I think there is definitely a trend towards helicopter parenting. How do the little darlings cope when out in the real world? Do their parents still act as alarm clocks and also fight their battles for them?0 -

There's nothing to apologise for. You didn't offend me. In fact, I reread your post and I still can't see anything wrong with it!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I find the hardest bit is turning my ill-formed, convoluted sentences into something that might come out of the mind of an 11 year old. Only good thing is that I won't let DD use my ideas unless she shows she understands them which means a paragraph can turn into a helf hour learning session so she is beginning to think it is quicker and easier just to do it herself.
Last night I had a slight surprise when she suggested that creationsim must be true because it was in the bible - I mean I've nothing against sending the kids to a church school in the hope they will gain morals and a desire to be nice to people but when they start believing it things become more challenging. Thus we had to have a lecture on how even Christians understood that in many ways bible stories are parables not supposed to be taken at face value. I guess the Catholic church does have form when it comes to supressing original thought.I think....0
