Seconded
ETA I do remember reading that when writing the scripts they had to invent situations that couldn't possibly happen in real life or someone somewhere would have been offended and written angry letters
The idea that Catholic priests who 'offended' in some way were sent back to Ireland is absolutely true. The Church liked to deal with things internally if possible.
It happened to my priest, Father Jim : who, err, got caught discovering his sexual persuasions in a public place.
The relationship between Catholic priests and the kind of dominant nuns you find running a girls boarding school also rings true. Some priests I knew were frightened of the nuns!0 -

lots are lovely. Two nuns I had were horrendous, one a sister, one a Mother. Both had taken the same name, but were in different communities continents apart, and both were nasty sadistic people. However, they were vastly outnumbered by many, lovely, women.0 -

. Maybe those antibiotics aren't so bad after all. I also used heal gel.
That's excellent news :-)
Is heal gel any good for scars? I'm using Bio-Oil on one on my arm where I had a mole removed a few months ago, but it doesn't seem to be helping much (though admittedly it might work better if I actually remembered to use it twice a day every day)
ETA The girls' grammar school in Gibraltar in the 1960s, when my parents and I spent 3 years there, was a convent school, so if you passed the 11+ and were Christian (or at least not actively a member of a different religion) you went there, regardless of your denomination (or lack thereof, come to think of it). Some of the teachers were lay people, some nuns. The nuns who taught us were lovelyThey were all called Mother in those days, but they are called Sisters now in that Order.

Some people think that the act of massaging the scar, irrespective of what you put on it, makes more difference.0 -
I just had to explain why everyone was talking about Back to the Future today to my mum (no, they're not releasing another sequel; just because it's not a Google doodle doesn't mean it's not a 'thing'). In 30 years time if I stick to the mortgage I signed up for, I'll be 23 months into being mortgage-free. Who knows, might have finished doing up the house by then too!
I hope hoverboards are a reality by then0 -
.... Back to the Future....
I can't believe it was 30 years ago it came out! Mind you, I never saw it when it was new. I wait until films are free on the telly
I probably saw BTTF 2000-2005 or so. I did like them all.
What is gobsmacking though is - the old Doc .... he was aged under 50 when they filmed! I checked wikipedia this morning to see if he was still alive (he is).... and realised he's not as old as I thought.0 -
Doc Brown was on the news this morning Pastures. He still looks the same age!
He was sitting in a deLorean wearing a lab coat with mad hair and made a lovely speech, which I wanted to make a note of, then forgot, and then it didn't get played again. B*gger. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I think they shouldn't report things like the back to the future 'future' having been reached - all it does is remind me how old I am. at work today we were discussing it - my colleagues were too young to have seen it first time at the cinema
(I decided not to ask them about Starwars at that point)
I think....0 -
Heya purch. You back for a bit or is this a flying visit?
Grey, grey, grey and miserable in Sydney today and only 21C. This is isn't what I signed up for.
I've been getting the ferry to work for the last few weeks and it's a great way to get in. No traffic snarls or accidents, just a gentle pootle up the river to the harbour.0
