After my last lot of anti depressants, I won't take any tablets that have the potential to be habit forming....those beggers were a right pain to come off and I spent more time coming off them than the actual treatment for the breadown!
Rang for an appointment with the doctor on Thursday, had to give a brief idea of what was wrong to the receptionist (I said 4 words, worsening pain, worsening condition) and the doctor duly rang back.
From just those 4 words and no other questions, she has decided I am depressed...well in my normal everyday words "Depressed my a*se!"
I know what depression is like, I know how hopeless I feel, I keep a very careful eye on my mental state because of the breakdown and my history and I am as far away from being depressed as I have ever been! In fact, I am actually very positive at the moment, feeling more in control, feeling good about myself.
I'm actually quite insulted to be honest.
Her rationalising of it was I had to be depressed because I am 44, in pain (apparently too young to be in pain) and I have two (yes, she lost one of the boys), children with disabilities, so ergo, I have to be depressed and that is causing the pain. She has apparently completely ignored the scans, the specialist reports etc reporting the EDS and arthritis, nope, I am too young to be having pain (try telling that to James who already has a high level of pain at 21).
Not quite sure depression causes dislocating and audibly crunching bones....but there you go!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Oh Sue what a frustrating call. As you say, there are specialist reports all over the place but it sounds as though she has preconceived ideas and has forgotten that you shouldn't pigeonhole people.
Was this your usual GP or just a triage one?0 -
A triage one as when you ring, it is pretty much pot luck who you get! Gone are the days when you can make an appointment to see your doctor, you get the doctor on duty calls that particular day it appears.
I've got to go and see her on Monday with my duly completed mood survey...oh I had fun filling that in, it looks to me like a survey they give you if you have gone to the doctor complaining of feeling down rather than one on pain.
I scored 6.
Mind you, if they had given me the same survey about 3 years ago, I would have scored a lot higher but now ex lovverr gave me so much confidence in myself, made me feel wanted, made me feel sexy and attractive, that it formed the basis for how I am now...looking forward to the future, proud of my achievments with the boys and generally just enjoying life and the new horizons when all the boys are off at uni.We made it! Seeing as you asked Wheezy, I'd go shopping at one of the big Malls, have a cheap meal in one of the ridiculously low priced all you can eat casino buffets, then go and see a show.. maybe Terry Gator who is an amazing impersonator, maybe Penn and Teller. Then I'd find the lowest denomination slot machine possible and blow $10 in dimes, just to get the experience of gambling in Vegas.
HAVE FUN!!!!!!Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I have no idea what a score of 6 means, but that last para sounds really positive. You sound as though you are in a good place mentally Sue, and need a bit of help sorting the physical stuff out. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Have a great time wheezy!
Looking at all those lights I'd probably just be holding my head in agony unable to process anything which is a poor show, it looks impressive.0 -

I suspect it's the PRIME-MD questionnaire. There's a bit more to it than just the score, for example it is important to look at how the answers are arranged and some things are more troublesome than others. For example something answering 'nearly every day' to the question, ' How often in the last 2 weeks have you had thoughts that you would be better off dead or of hurting yourself in some way?' would score 3 points as would answering the same thing to 'How many times in the last fortnight have you had little pleasure in doing things'?
Overall, a score of 6, probably out of 27 being 9 questions with each answer worth 0-3 points is likely to show someone with pretty normal life responses to stress. I reckon I would score about 3-4. A sample of questions is:
Over the last 2 weeks , how often have you been bothered by any of the following:
Little interest or pleasure in doing things?
Feeling down, depressed, or hopeless?
Trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much?
Feeling tired or having little energy?
Poor appetite or overeating?
Feeling bad about yourself — or that you are a failure or have let yourself or your family down?
Trouble concentrating on things, such as reading the newspaper or watching television?
Moving or speaking so slowly that other people could have noticed? Or the opposite — being so fidgety or restless that you have been moving around a lot more than usual?
Thoughts that you would be better off dead or of hurting yourself in some way?
Score 0 for not at all, 1 for several days, 2 for more than half the days and 3 for nearly every day.
