I had the pleasure of a visit from doozergirl yesterday.
Have to be honest, was a delight to see her smiling a lot. Plus, for her to see chez jelly having discussed it so much yet not seen it.
In other news, I have found alternate employment. Not something I desperately wanted, but pays the bills. Celebrated by ordering 8 cd'sIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Nice one lemonjelly.:j
Let's see what Martin thinks: :money: Martin always thinks that. I think the sale of the website has finally gone to his head.

£175 fine.
Of course when I was there most students (well the normal pleb ones I associated with) couldn't afford a TV let alone a car so it didn't really matter (and for that matter there were no mobiles and I don't think laptops, my kids see me as a living history lesson)I think....0 -

Which years?
Don't worry I was part of a couple all the time I was there so we never did anything unsuitable (not of course that you could possibly have forgotten me if we had!)I think....0 -
Maggie Thanks for sharing that with us
I love the photo of your Mum and Dad.
I have a photo of my parents out and about in about 1938, in which my Dad is obviously saying something to my Mum and she's determinedly striding on. I asked her about it once, and she said my Dad was saying "Come on, let's stop and smile for that photographer!" and she was saying "NO!!" :rotfl:
But Dad bought the photo anyway
Spirit I love the sound of the good neighbour scheme in your villageand how lovely that it's brought you a new friend!
lemonjelly So pleased to hear you've got a new job even if it's not quite what you'd like.
CK Bon voyage! Enjoy your flight0 -

When I was at uni in the 70s, nobody would own up to having a car. If anybody did have one they'd hide it in another street, so they wouldn't be put upon to chauffeur their housemates to the shops/pubs/wherever. Having said that, my uni had a city centre campus so you could get by without. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Nottingham University doesn't allow students to bring their cars on campus.

I was at a Poly for a year in the 70s and I bought a brand new car with the latest registration letter and was embarrassed about it and hoped none of my fellow students noticed. I was a bit older than most of them and they were all over 21 anyway and I was a sponsored student and I had had the good fortune to have an inheritance which bought the car. Mostly they didn't have cars whereas today that has changed.0

We've not allowed our kids to take a car to university. Mainly because I don't like the idea of them driving 200 miles on the motorway in an Aygo, but also because they lived near a main bus route with buses literally every 2 minutes and an annual student bus pass costing £200. Parking near where they live is easy and the Halls all have half empty car parks, but parking in the city centre, where lectures are, is a nightmare.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Weekend all planned, DS2 coming[STRIKE] home[/STRIKE] to London to see GF, family meal out booked for Saturday night to celebrate OHs upcoming birthday. First time DS2-GF meets DS1.
Then a cousin sadly passes away today. Funeral is tomorrow (refer to previous posts for how easy it is to arrange). So now my mother will arrive tomorrow. Saturday night with DS2-GF and mother will be difficult. Don't want to cancel because DS2 is not home that often and OH is away with work next week so can't be rearranged.
