Thankfully, my experience of funerals is very limited. I'd like the minimum possible to be spent on mine. I think I'd be more bothered about the choice of flowers (no chrysanthemums please) and the songs. And for no one to feel obliged to attend.... If you couldn't be bothered in life then no point afterwards. I'll either not be around or bed on to the next life.

Today I'm celebrating a significant anniversary. That of the biggest commitment I'm ever likely to make. Two years since I got the keys to my house

It involves sausage so it can't be that bad.

Their own brand vodka is called 'Putinoff'. Made me smile.

Community is something that Aussies are big on that I think many Europeans aren't especially the British.[/QUOTE

Perhaps that reflect density of population. Here there are long standing communityevents/initiatives such as the fund raising village fete, village cricket match, Ball, Quiz evenings, childrens week, and good neighbours scheme who can be called upon or will offer assistance if they know of a 'need'. I had a phone call this afternoon from the villager who is taking me to cardiac rehab tomorrow.I have never met this woman, nor any of the others whom to date have participated in a roster to provide me with transport. All volunteers who give their time and offer assistance to meet the needs of the community. The lady who transported me last week turned out to be the wife of someone I know, she was delightful and I think I have made a new friend.

As is now my answer to related questions 'no-one has asked me' :D

I really can't imagine anyone will. So it's me and Chez Nikkster :) Could be worse.

I'd like the minimum spent on mine, which is completely at odds with wanting to be buried in Georgia........

Congrats on the house Nikk :)

When compared to a "cheap" event of £4-5k that seems staggeringly cheap. Getting a plot is nigh on impossible in many areas these days.

No need for a plot. I am being cremated and my ashes scattered on the public foot path that runs across our garden . Near to our pet cemetery and so that I never leave. Only bit of my wishes I have made known.

I may make more of a plan, as when I organised the order of service for my mum it took a couple of days and wrang every drop of energy out of me. I would want OH and DD to have an easier time. Athough it is for the deceased it is easy to hurt others whe organising things ( I recall a NP saying they had been excluded from arranging their fathers funeral). For my mum I made it as inclusive as possible, writing bidding prayers that wider family members would read and asking each of my siblings to choose a reading, hymn or piece of music for the crematorium.
Dvorac piece sung as " Going Home"
Hymn "Faith of our fathers" an RC Anthem
Reading " for everything there is a season......." Read by her sole surviving sister.
    The blessing, the gaelic blessing.
At the cemetery the piece for reflection was Danny Boy.
My sister could not give the eulogy on the day and had not written anything, so I spoke.
My sister organised the family flowers, one large spray the length of the coffin, that was very pretty pastels and smelt divine. The smell was lovely and was an aspect I had not considered. Sis had dealt with FD, I dealt with the priest.

Son and surviving grandsons carried her in and out of church.

Quite a jolly wake in a slightly tatty pub where she had attended and enthused about the wake of her friend a couple of months earlier. My then addict brother played his part and spoke his words beautifully throughout and was great craic ( i had been worried).

As good as it could be for her, no regrets. She came from a family who back home in Ireland always had a cast of thousands of priests and nuns at their funerals, but that was not what she would have wanted.

The world has not ended, as far as I can tell.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Just driven to Gatwick with OH and I can confirm that the M11/M25/M23 as I knew them are still there, so I can't tell either. Not to say something hasn't happened over Greater Greater Herts

She's gone to do whatever she needs to do while I wait at the gate....unfair, but that's life.

ETA: G-EZUI (The flying carrot) has just been pushed. I want to fly on it :(
