  • I could do Birmingham, too. I would use the train. I used to drive into the city centre every day but roads in Brum are now far too crowded even though i know them well.

Two trains and three aeroplanes for me plus about two grand. I'd get a load of air miles though.

We had a lovely weekend staying with friends at Spencer, just outside Sydney. It's a beautiful spot on hill overlooking mangroves. If you climb the hill and keep going then there's nothing for about 150 miles.

Tragic waste of life, however you look at it.

It would appear that four youngsters were riding a quad bike, without helmets, when a Nissan sports car ran up the back of it!

You forgot about it being 12:30AM - does anyone know if quad bikes have lights at all?

So a pretty cosmopolitan bit of Aus then?

I had a very nice day...until ex husband brought me (and Josh) down with a bump.

He has now decided to give Josh the book I said about last week as a birthday present (yep, he still hasn't purchased it yet), now I am not sure how others view it but in my world, an essential study book doesn't really meet the criteria of a birthday present unless the recipient has specifically requested it to be.

He was asked for one thing towards his going to uni, one blooming thing! I told Josh to send a message back to say I will get the bloody thing just so Josh could get the much needed money he was going to ask for for his birthday but he declined saying let him get the book, he was done with him (along with a few choice words about his character).

Now ex hubby has most def lost his middle son now...why did I ever marry that man?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

You'd be surprised! It's along a road that runs down by the river so there are neighbours to the left and right. A lot of them are monied types that want a bush bolthole just out of Sydney.

I set my alarm for the moon. Was rewarded by a perfect (if you ignore the streetlights) view from my bedroom windrow, meaning no need to traipse outside :)

My house is not well oriented for it so waited for DH to get up. Only saw the partial, with the moon looking a bit like Pacman. Did you get any pics Nikks?

In Herts the street lights go off at midnight, generally this is much moaned about, but for astronomical events it definitely helps.

Took some pics, but as it was a)from inside, b) on my phone and c) 3 am they are all pretty terrible. I bet I'll see them in a few weeks and wonder what the heck they are supposed to be. The only reason to share them here would be to give you all a good laugh!

I should have thought to take a peek when DS woke at 4am. Sadly in general I rate an unbroken night of sleep over a once in 20 years astronomical spectacular.

Sorry Sue, I wanted to spend some time on responding to your post above and didn't get a chance yesterday.

I agree that an essential uni text when you are the parent is not a normal birthday gift. If an aunt/uncle or friend for example did it as part of help towards getting a student to college that imo would be different. However people could justifiably say to me "what do you know viva, you're not a parent". But that's what I would think if I were.

So can understand why Josh is frustrated. For uni texts, it is worth looking on Abe Books website to see if you can get one a bit cheaper second hand. Also students as you know sell books on, in my day you read this on noticeboards and took a slip of paper, this is probably all electronic these days.

Have you spoken to the uni to see if he is entitled to additional financial support? I'm sure that this is something you'll have in hand, but just in case.

In terms of why you married him. Well imo (NP mode off) he is a grade A pancake maker. But look at the positives... you have three gorgeous boys who absolutely adore you and whether or not they want to be a part of their father's life now (I can see why they wouldn't), you wouldn't have them without him. So he did get something right, even if it was only three times in his life.
