If mine impacted on my eating, and was without risk, I'd consider it, even at £4k. Unfortunately the latter is not the case. I'm hoping that as this is a relatively new technique, that over time it will become less of an issue.

I think things like implant technology will benefit the next generation the most. It gives the dentist the capability to use solutions which can potentially last decades. Things like crowns do have a shorter life.

When it comes to people of my age, the dentist smiles and politely says "we're in the maintenance phase now".

I think he's trying to put me out to pasture ;)

No. This isn't the PC ...it's me. I've been using PCs all day every day since 1986, before that I was a trained typist and had typed every day since 1975.

This is definitely me, not the PC.

I was having a conversation the other day and couldn't remember the word 'quota', normally when I can't remember a word I work around it but this time I couldn't even think of a suitable synonym (and indeed typing this I couldn't remember the word synonym for a while and had to google for it). I guess my point may be you are not the only one who has age related moments....
    I think....

    If only it were moments!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

A doctor I knew felt plagued by the number of worried patients who turned up with stories about how they'd crossed the room to do something then forgot what it was.

The only thing they'd forgotten was that this benign non-pathological forgetfulness was a normal feature of life and always had been. :)

I am very forgetful, words, tablet taking, insulin, tasks, exercises, conversations, appointments all forgotten. Except meals and snacks . I never forget food.

I remember Roseanne Barr on her eponymous TV show, being perplexed by people who claim they just forget to eat. She owned up to forgetting her purse or her keys etc. but that forgetting how to eat must be a "special kind of stupid".;)

There is an entire field of psychology devoted to those sorts of silly errors. Apparently about 1 in 40 actions we perform are 'incorrect'.

I don't tend to forget things. I can remember phone numbers from years ago, old car registration plates etc.
I get very annoyed when the dentist persists in sending me reminders by text and phone of my next appointment. I don't need to be reminded.
My desk may be (very) messy but I can find stuff. Drives OH mad, he thinks because it's a mess I shouldn't be able to find anything. I can't help the way my mind works!
I would definitely never forget to eat - unfortunately. I need to remember to stop eating.
I often type the wrong thing - partly fat finger syndrome, partly because my typing is pretty slow so my mind has moved on whilst my fingers have tried to catch up. I spend an increasing amount of time making corrections.
I do forget words, though, - I know what I want to say but the words just aren't there.

    Hi Lydia,

I didn't really know what to say last night and wanted to ponder. I'm sorry things are the way they are. Now that you have the right person, even though it is external, I am sure they will engage with nearly the same determination as you would.
It's hardly consolation, but imagine that if it were you that were truly broken then the impact on them would likely be worse. Not being able to cope well is probably the best you can expect of yourself and could also be considered a great relief.

I think you are coping admirably. There may not be huge amounts of energy to go around make things perfect, but even people with boundless energy aren't entitled to amazing parenting skills as part of that package. You are thoughtful, considerate of them, have done everything you are capable of and have taken action beyond the experts that have actually failed to do what they're qualified.

That deserves a pat on the back, regardless of whether you feel you don't deserve it. We are our own worst enemies.

I've had ebay email me every day with bumpers that might fit my car since two people drove into the back of my car within three weeks of each other back in May/June. It's not a hugely common car, in not that common a colour and in not that common styling.

This morning it popped up! Even this one has a rabdom piece of chrome from an optional extra, byt it's small and I might be able to lose it when it arrives. Of course, more expensive than every other bumper on ebay for the same model but it is without any damage at alll and cheaper than the fix. Doozer is going to pone them and see if we can get the price down a bit more.

Worth driving around with a crap bumper for a few hundred quid saved. :). Now I need to work out how to change a bumper :o
