Rugby. Doozer is saying the same, Spirit, that it won't be worth fixing unless he decides to give up contact sport.

Doozer's had been broken a few times before I met him. I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like, but I like it. Not my beautiful boy though! I hope it's like your OH and not very noticeable!

I'm sure culottes as part of a school uniform is a posh alert.

As is a school only having uniform stocked at John Lewis.

Definite posh alert if PN got her school uniform bought new from a shop. For the first several years every stitch I wore to school (apart from underwear) came from "the second hand cupboard" which was in a small room between the corridor and the school hall, and staffed by elderly ladies who'd all been involved with it for decades.

    Benylin cough medicine.

Ugh. Haven't met a cough syrup that doesn't make me retch. Not that I've risked trying any liquid cough medicine since about 1986.

    Italy

    That's prolly it.

NZ is on the short list for next as is Up North (Islington or something - I will have to take a guide I think) and Vietnam.

    In chronological order (omitting repeats):
    1975
    India
Singapore (although only for 6 hours, but we did leave the airport)
    Australia

    1976
    Fiji
    USA
    Canada

    1983

    Qatar
    Ireland

    1986
Belgium (only passing through by coach really)
    W Germany

    1988
    Switzerland

Since then have only been to places that were already on the list - Ireland every year from 1984 to 1988, USA in 1992, France in 1988, 2001 and 2003.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

However, the thing I liked the most was probably the simplest : a driver side arm rest. It was also the one option I would probably have not included had I chosen.

Takes all sorts. The driver's arm rest in my car annoys me and always seems to be in the way of the handbrake as well as the useful place for putting things between the front seats.

And who was stuck on the northbound M3 between junction 3 and junction 2 from 5 to 9PM?
    Me.
Luckily the car was well stocked with 4 half litre bottles Harrogate spring water and 2 boxes of cereal bars containing 4 bars each. :)

There was an overturned car on the northbound M5 somewhere south of Birmingham today. Lot of police, fire engines etc, and a huge tailback. Can't tell you anything more about it because I was going southbound when I went past it.

Not all of it. The school wasn't local, so we didn't know anybody that went there.

That is interesting. Any reason why you weren't sent to the local school?

I have never heard of that book. When I was a kid I enjoyed the Alan Garner books and Leon Garfield.

It was all unreal fantasy escapism but that was what seemed to suit everybody. Actually kids libraries seemed to be full of formulaic serials, about half of them written by the astonishingly prolific Enid Blyton.

Still playing catch up. Enid Blyton is now a trademark, so lots of new books being churned out by ghost writers. In terms of historical books for young children, I'd recommend the My Story series. These are written from the perspective of a child living at a particular time in history, e.g. the Blitz (other times also available). Caroline Lawrence books on the Roman period good too. Julia Goulding wrote a whole bunch of books that are ideal for girls... historical adventures

The new car is amazing! Horrible drive back from the dealership as it was raining and the traffic heavy but I survived albeit quite stressed.

Still working out all the gadgets, finally worked out how to adjust the wing mirrors (thought the switch was defective until I worked out it was a slide to the left or right to activate the adjustment and not just a press as per the instructions) and somehow despite looking straight at it, couldn't find where to set the speed limiter/cruise control...hidden in plain view or I was just too excited/stressed/eeked out to see it.

I also set it to auto for the lights and then became paranoid they were not going to come on in the heavy rain tonight after picking youngest up from college....I was panicking unnecessarily!

So glad you finally have your new car Sue. Glad it's lovely.

DD1 starts big school tomorrow

Hope the first few weeks have been going well for her. :)

DD also started big school this term (different school from DS). She likes the school, but is not particularly enjoying the school bus.
