On a different subject, have any other hayfever-prone NP noticed that the pollen season seems to be starting? My eyes have started reacting as of yesterday. Yesterday I managed with the eye drops. Today I have taken a tablet, which seems to be working so far.

Starts in February for me. Pretty bad at the moment but once the trees finish the grass is not so bad for me. The pills don't work at all unless I forget to take them and then realise how much worse it could be. It is annoying not being able to go outside when the weather is so nice :(
    I think....

Thanks for the support, people, and for the forbearance from those who found it tedious. ;)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Kiwi stole the piece of toast I made for breakfast. He was like a flying squirrel. He came from nowhere and flew out into the garden.

I managed to gather my wits to yell he dropped the toast, and in told dog dog she could have it.

    Never has such behaviour happened.

Definitely! I'm having to use the maximum dose of nasal spray and sometimes need the anti-allergy eye drops. I already take an anti-histamine tablet every day anyway for chronic urticaria, but need extra ammunition. Later in the season I'll be able to reduce the dose of the spray, and I only ever need the eye drops for about a month right at the start of the season.

I haven't quite caught up yet, so I hope you finished the marking - it sounds like a truly grim job!

Caught up now and I see you did finish it :T

michaels Mine starts in February too! I thought I must just be weird. It goes on until September. I didn't start getting hay fever until i was 26, and OH has only had it since he got into his fifties

lir Couldn't help laughing about kiwi and the toast. Such a wonderful mental picture :D

Thank you. I hate it with a passion. Most of the rest of the department do too. It is the one part of the job that we loathe, as opposed to writing reports, which is just my least favourite "normal" part of the job. It's because we're used to science marking where it's all pretty objective and you can tell fairly easily how many marks a particular answer is worth. This is much much more subjective, but we are expected to achieve the same level of reliability in giving the same marks that the exam board's moderator would. The guidance notes from the board aren't helpful either. One of the criteria for a particular thing they had to do in the analysis had a note on the official guidance from the board saying "This may be seen anywhere, including in the plan" and a reply from a query to the chief examiner for that element of the exam saying "Do not award this if they have just repeated what they said in their plan. To get this mark they need to add something extra about this in the analysis beyond what was in their plan." ?????? :wall:

I am thrilled to be able to tell you that under the new A-level system that we will being teaching in September, this kind of coursework will no longer happen. The students will have to do assessed practicals, but as far as we can tell they will be much much much easier to assess, even though there will be more of them. Of course, next year's Y13 will still be on the old system, but at least we will only have to do it for one year group rather than two, and then after that never again! :D:j:beer:_party_

    I blame the parents :)

    Me too. :D

I have noticed and commented that he has been hanging around by my knees while I sit at the table and asked everyone to make sure they are not mindlessly slipping him titbits. I even mentioned last weekend I might have to start putting him out while we eat to nip the knee guarding in the bud. Its not begging but rather just waiting by feet under the table. I dislike it though, and I think this shows I have been too slow to clamp down on it. :(

He is a very effective crumb vacuum though. :o.

Reminds me of years ago when we took Avatar Dog with us visiting friends. Somebody dropped something food-related on the floor and one of us said "Don't worry, the dog will hoover that up." A confused 3-year-old voice was then heard saying "But dogs can't do hoovering!"

My view from kitchen end of cheese room. Plan to try and record it over the year as it develops. Pansy salads are getting a bit boring. I don't love that colour but thing it works really well in that garden. I also have violets ( dark purple and violet blue) out in the shade beds. :) and my huge patch of white violets in the white border, but I'm not bringing the whites into the herb beds, I what colour here. A more proactive person would be crystallising violets right now.........
