The staff were really kind to us, even brought us a meal to our room after we had finally got DD off to sleep.
If it had been in the UK in that era children were not really welcome so I am sure the reaction would have been less friendly0 -
It's a tricky one.
I think I am one of those pseudo-middlers.
It seems, regardless of the capability of the set, I find a spot not at the top but just in the upper third or so.
In a lower stream I might end up settling.
Others are completely different, and it's about finding out your own personal approach.
I was in the top set when I started at high school (I still remember my first maths lesson there, they were talking a completely different language!) but at the end of the year, they moved me down 2 sets.
Absolute bliss! I didn't have to think, I didn't have any pressure, I could literally just turn up and write stuff and I got an A without any kind of effort.
The beggers moved me back up to top set at the end of the year :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Romania has made it on to my "to do" list. Serbia, not so much yet, though there are other FYR states that are on it. I did however read Asne Seierstad's book on Serbia, which was absolutely fascinating.
I've done (by rough calculation) 52.
Most of Europe, parts of Asia (mainly the former USSR), USA once and a small part of the Middle East.
I'd love to buy an old London taxi and spend a year driving round the world in it. Weird to some I know, but having a car on travels means that you can stop off places that you can't on a train, or wouldn't know about on a plane.
Plus, you have somewhere to sleep (the rear can be converted), whilst not wanting a kitchen means you're forced to eat locally. In Europe, this will be expensive, but in some places (especially when you get to Asia) really cheap.💙💛 💔0 -
That sounds lovely. I much prefer the ferry, gives me the "going abroad" feeling that I just don't get by going through a tunnel!)
I was speaking with a French mom/daughter this afternoon coming back from Bucharest (with British Airways) (mom ended up in C, I was seated in D and daughter in F, so I offered to swap with mom).
They were on the way to see the other daughter in the UK and their boss (both working for the same company) have closed part of their business for 4 weeks, and the business completely for 2.
They're not in baking, but surely if a director wants to close their business for part of a summer, they're more than welcome to IMO.
HSBC have allowed everything on my card to work when I've been in Romania, popped into Waitrose this evening and it got declined. Fine, because I had another card on me, but very embarassing.💙💛 💔0 -
Spent last night at A&E in our dreadful local hospital. Relative taken in by ambulance, still waited over two hours to be seen by a doc whose grasp of English was not good. Still, at least it wasn't the night before, the wait then was 5 and a half hours.
At least they are ok, which is the important thing. The staff for the most part are wonderful, but the management is dire. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

My wife, who is French, says that the French had a tradition of taking August off but that has changed over the years. With all the additional days they along with many people in other European Country's take more holidays but of a shorter duration.
However no rule fits all......
Except Italy still regard August as a holiday month more than most. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Apparently half the Dutch get July and half August. When I asked why I was told that given that no Dutch person would consider a holiday there, they were worried that if they left the country empty the Germans would march in again.0 -

You are michaels and I claim my five pounds.
We've had some pretty shocking storms here too. In Sydney it was so bad that the dog had to come indoors which is pretty bad. South of Sydney has been pretty bloody with some apparently nasty flooding.
