I've done much of western europe and north america but only Africa once (Tangier) and Asia (Hong Kong).
Quite happy to give north Africa and the middle east the body swerve for the foreseeable future.

I'm keen to see as much of Europe as possible, especially microstates and the new countries.

The US has amazing scenery but very few cities have much local character. Loved New Orleans and San Francisco. Much of the rest of it's surprisingly monotonous.

Offhand, I'd say I've been to around 30 countries...

Parts of the globe I've never set foot are Latin America and S-E Asia.

Anywhere that makes those amazing croquettes de crevettes is obviously worth visiting.

There are places that is love to go to that make up my 100. Whether I'll be able to is another matter. Leptis magna I. Libya is on m bucket list, but I won't get there any time soon.
The way things are going, I fear for any historical site in the Middle East/North Africa, Lydia.
Saw on the news yesterday that isis has started demolishing Palmyra.

I get really upset about is destroying those really old things that can never be replaced...and then feel bad that destroying antiquities seems to get more press than being inhumane to people.
    I think....

What impresses me are the cities of Europe. The character and personality of them, the charm and the diversity. Not just the ones on the med either. If you go to Germany and don't pop a few metres over the border to see Salzburg, you've missed something beautiful.

I want to do one of those pre-Xmas cheap trips to Bruges they talk about on other threads here. Or any excuse to go to France and sample the food.

    Salzburg is lovely.
I have a video somewhere of me performing 'The hills are alive with the sound of musiiiiic...' on top of Unterberg.
    No, I won't post it. :)

I spent a day in Bruges once. Lovely place. One of the few places I've been on a canal tour and enjoyed it. It's a proper working city as well as a tourist destination so you can get a decent meal too. A very decent one if my experience is anything to go by. <<rubbing tummy smilie>>

The Torah (the 5 books of Moses) are read in rotation throughout the year. This week's bit contains this, which I think might give some insight into the ISIS mindset.

10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee.

    It's Deuteronomy chapter 20.

It's a fairytale town, as some might say.
