Romania has made it on to my "to do" list. Serbia, not so much yet, though there are other FYR states that are on it. I did however read Asne Seierstad's book on Serbia, which was absolutely fascinating.
I was looking up how many countries there are (196), and then I wondered how many languages there are, and then I came across this fairly astonishing snippet:-
According to Census of India of 2001, India has 122 major languages and 1599 other languages. However, figures from other sources vary, primarily due to differences in definition of the terms "language" and "dialect". The 2001 Census recorded 30 languages which were spoken by more than a million native speakers and 122 which were spoken by more than 10,000 people. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

They're FIFA for countries that don't exist. Members include places such as Occitania, Heligoland and Quebec. Most places get a wobbly red line under them when you type them!0 -

Without wanting to brag, I've done the hundred Country thing, although without really thinking about it. Don't count, just travel for pleasure, you'll find there are many Countries you'll want to re visit, time after time!
There are nice places to visit in both Romania and Serbia, and I really like Belgrade. As for the FYR states, well I've enjoyed them all. Croatia for it's coast and Islands and Slovenia for it's lakes and mountains. Then of course there's Kotor and Budva in Montenegro, and Mostar and Sarajevo in B&H........I could go on!0 -
I've been to 7 countries......Denmark twice, France 4 times, Belgium loads of times, Italy once, Spain once, Czech republic, Southern Ireland.
If you include Wales and Scotland it makes it more respectable.
I always wanted to travel more but now ex hubby didn't much like the idea of travelling abroad and his diabetes, I found out right near the end of our marriage that we had had access to an apartment in Athens for almost 20 years, all we had to do was pay for flights.....my dream is to visit Athens. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Thanks Trev. My love of particular places makes me think the 100 countries thing will remain out of reach, but its a fun and target.
There are places that is love to go to that make up my 100. Whether I'll be able to is another matter. Leptis magna I. Libya is on m bucket list, but I won't get there any time soon.
I wouldn't go somewhere just to get my numbers up.. Which is why I likely won't achieve it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I think I have done 21 but I now wonder whether my desire to travel is actually fair in terms of the climate impact, after all there are lots of bits of the uk that I haven't visited that don't require flying.I think....0

I see that County of Nice is a member, as is Heligoland. Isn't that a bit like declaring the People's Republic of East Finchley, and sending the local eleven to play footie?
On another tack, I see that the Irish have the legendary giant Finn MacCool. How cool is that?!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Have you never been to the US Gen? Vietnam has some of the best Asian food I've ever tasted!
By the way, good luck for tomorrow. Don't think you'll need it though!0 -

Never been anywhere in The Americas. I plan to cycle across America one day. I've always wanted to go to the States but as somewhere to live/travel around for 6 months not just to go to for a couple of days or even weeks. One for after the Generalissimos have beggured off.
Vietnamese bread is awesome too. My BiL has a GF from Vietnam. She is an amazing cook. I really want to visit SE Asia but preferably the bits without those 'travelers' (pretentious word for tight-fisted tourist). I'm too old to be drinking moonshine and hooch with a bunch of people that still have functioning livers that want to argue the toss with someone living a subsistence life over a penny or 2 because they don't want to get 'ripped off'.
Tomorrow will be fine. This is just to make sure I don't have cancer, not to find it. As a precaution I am going to drink wine tonight as I can't have 3 hours kip again like I did last night.0
