Any Windows users here who signed up for the free upgrade to Windows 10?
It was supposed to be rolled out from 29/7.

DW's upgraded and initially it looks like it's better than 8 and a lot faster. But can't search for things as easily as in 7, apparently. :o

This laptop I am using now thought about it but then said that the CPU is not supported :( It is only 7 years old.

One of the PCs started downloading this afternoon - it has the os on a 32gb SSD and insisted on my clearing some space before it started.

Nothing yet on the windows tablet but I don't know how to run windows update on that....

Then again the android tablets and one phone that were promised lollipop before Christmas are still waiting....
    I think....

It's nice to be home. Have driven 860 miles since Sunday.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

You have my sympathy. I've got a major driving journey tomorrow although it's split between the two of us.:o

Thank you. The first time I did a long drive with both kids and no other adult was probably the month after LNE left. From Gloucestershire to the Llyn peninsular with DS a few months away from turning 5, and DD just days away from turning 2. I can't describe how much easier it is now they're 10 years older.

Which reminds me. As of a few days ago, I have now been single for 10 years. Am I supposed to mark that in some way???

I haven't but DrT has. He is really pleased so far, but early days. My plan is to leave it a few weeks and see if he is still happy before doing same.

Daft question... do you lose all your saved passwords if you change?

Back to sleep shortly I hope. Woke up hot. Bloody perimenopause. Thank goodness it isn't actually a v hot summer.

Glad you are home safe Lydia.

I am upgrading to Windows 10 as we speak, or more accurately as you sleep.

No problems so far. As for the cricket :T:T:T:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::T:T:T

The Boy's team got thrashed in the soccer, oh well. They were a player short.

It's a glorious day. 23C and sunny. I'm off for a bike ride in a few minutes; a quick 50kms. Should be great.

I'll let you know about the passwords viva.

It's retained my passwords for MSE, the Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation (Mrs Generali's new diet) and the FT. However, I use Firefox mostly for browsing so I don't know what would have happened to passwords in IE as it's been replaced by Microsoft Edge.

It's also kept my downloads like LibreOffice for example and the document I stored on my desktop is still there.

It has a handy thing for downloading films to rent or buy. Trouble is I can download, for example, Star Wars to rent for $5.99 or I can buy access to Netflicks for $9.99 a month. I might rent a film just to see how well it works though.

It doesn't appear to have downloaded any 'bundled software' (malware) like Norton Bloody Anti Sodding Virus. The Start button is back like an old friend returning and the volume is even at the same setting I left it at (95%).

It seems quicker than 8.1. My back pain has cleared up too but that could just be coincidence or maybe the stretches I did after my bike ride.

So far so good as the man who fell off the top of the Empire State Building thought to himself as he hurtled past the 20th floor.

NB this is a very new laptop but also a very cheap one.

    Thanks Gen, most appreciated.

Got to sleep not long after posting. Not helped by the fact some very drunk neighbours, not even in my street came in and decided to have a barbecue so my bedroom window that I'd cracked open to cool down was filled with the smell of charcoal. I very much doubt they succeeded in cooking anything. They were also whispering VERY LOUDLY to try to be inconspicuous.

It would be funny if I want so tired and smelling like a kebab. Anyhow, off to the shower...

    ... amateur!

    :)

I think that if you feel its something you can mark in a positive way then go for it. I think you're an amazing, strong, independent woman. And 10 years of leaving something that wasn't right and getting yourself to where you are now is worth celebrating.
    But I'm probably biased ;)

I don't really have a date like that. I know when I moved out, but it was over a long time before that. Every day is a mini celebration of not being there any more :)
