I used to live near the Oval. If the radio was on we'd hear the roar of the crowd then the real roar would follow through the window!

Perhaps of interest to you Lydia, we had our solar panels fitted at the end of June and so far all is good. It feels nice driving our car knowing that the marginal cost per mile is zero because it is our solar electric that has charged the batteries.

Excellent! Glad I was useful. :)

Lydia, so nice to see you around again. Sorry life has been especially tough on you recently. Hope it starts to feel like less of a struggle asap.
Sorry to hear about the hamster too x

Thanks Nikkster. It's good to be back on the thread.

DD seems to have got over the hamster reasonably well. We have been thinking for some time of getting a new dog this summer. We have been to see one at a rescue centre, and reserved her, so we are going to see her again on Saturday, then they will visit and inspect our home, and then, if all is well, we'll be able to bring her home. Pics will follow in due course.

I must be the only one relieved it is not too hot. After last week, this weather is perfect. Mind you it has been a pleasant 18-21 degrees with litte rain since I got back.

DS is also happy about the weather. He does not like heat at all.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I love the Oval. It's my favourite Test ground that I've been to. Lords is full of pompous !!!!!!. The SCG is a good ground but the pavilion is in the wrong place, it should be behind the bowlers' arm and isn't.

Arundal is my favourite 1st class ground. Definitely worth a visit.

I couldn't agree more. I sometimes sit in the Pavilion at the Oval. You don't have to dress up, and you can sup a decent pint of draught beer at a reasonable price. Atmosphere's much better than Lord's as well.

I've just booked Flights and Hotel to watch Pakistan v England in early November. Tests in Sharjah so I'm staying in Dubai and getting a Taxi to the Ground each day,Sharjah's 'dry' ;)

The Long Room at The Oval is one of the best places to have a beer in London IMHO.

People go to Lords Test for all sorts of different reasons (business, 'to be seen', to watch cricket, because it's what you do), people go to The Oval Test to watch cricket with their mates. The Oval seems to attract a lot more away fans which means a lot more banter. Lords is too White Bread for my liking.

Watching the Windies at The Oval is one of the great experiences of the English summer. I remember watching the WI versus England in a one dayer in about 2004 and spending the whole of the morning session being told by a gangly Rasta where England were going wrong. Happy memories.

Ah, like the noise of planes going over my house during Wimbledon. It would start to fade out at home and then the sound would come onto the TV. :)

I was a member of the gym at the Oval for a while. Worked over the road.

Notes on a London market: acquaintance looked a tenanted flat this week, in extreme SE London. One bed, let to foreign family of six, who want to stay. Asking for Offers over 235k. Last bid she heard was 317k.
