Maggie it is understandable to feel a sense of loss, more natural imo than feeling nothing. Look to the future and the creation of new memories. Vibes on their way.

Why on earth did you give them this opportunity to do it again?

    Once bitten, twice shy, surely!?

Because otherwise the fence was being pushed back and for and we couldn't get the bins up the path. I couldn't live with it like that even if they could.

Maybe this is the golden opportunity to say "oh gosh that reminds me.... did you ever get round to giving me that money I paid for the tree work......"
    ...and they just say "yes".
    :)

It's just tipped it down here. There was a sudden flash of lightning into the room, I looked up/out and noticed big rain drops, so dashed to rescue the washing on the line..... then it tipped it down.

PN's right. They even said we can split the cost like last time!

Don't think I can take them to court without written evidence.

I think I suggested last time you love without the fence and see if they caved. As you have since spoken about your garden lighting , I now I would ;):D

Putting a tradesman in this situation seems to me unfair.

It is, but then said tradesman doesn't help themselves if they know half the money is coming from elsewhere. They really should have spoken to neighbour and issued invoice as well.

They might think it's easy to work with only one party but if it wasn't silvercar they were dealing with, they might have more problems trying to chase one party thru another.

I really think they should drop invoice to neighbour. sc may worry that verbal won't stand up, but the presence of a fence and a bill from a fencing contractor probably would.

Would it? Even though there is no evidence that the other side had contact with the tradesman?

An invoice might make things a bit more 'real' for them.

Morally I feel I should pay the tradesman if the neighbour doesn't pay. But doing so will mean the tradesman won't chase the neighbour, where him knocking on the neighbour's door may encourage him to pay up.
