Silver Car, so sorry to hear of your neighbour worries. Rolls eyes. Hope the b***ers pay up.
We had our irritating kids back sitting on wall across road again last night, but after I'd done as much pruning as I was capable of. They went after a couple of hours, but 3 of them came back later after OH had gone into town.
Both OH and me are feeling carp today, he's taken the land registry forms in to our sol, and is finally getting the money my folks left him in their wills (we over ran on cost of renovating and extending house so he let me use it). So he'll be feeling happier - he had to take out a loan which he can now pay off. :j
We're too shattered to do anything about the rest of the cash right now so we'll think about it until I'm fit enuff to visit my IFA.
Spirit, how you doing with the tremor? Hope improved today. Is it tomorrow your doc visit? Good luck with it whenever it is, and fingers crossed he/she can help you. Thanks for The Vibes! :A
Still in bed, don't think I'll be getting up today. Just totally wiped, but feeling less emotional about it all. Have been feeling wired ever since Feb when sale agreed, so not really surprising feel like carp now it's over. It always seems that once a pressure is removed there's payback for the worry time. Or rather the worry that one has suppressed for months takes its toll and kicks yer in the head!
And breathe... :rotfl:0 -
The tree felling comments reminds me of one of my rel's neighbours. Cut down a tree rather than calling in the professionals in order to save money. It was a very tall leylandii. Knocked over the neighbour's fence... then the next neighbours... then the next... 4 fences in total. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Fence dominoes - the latest urban sport
Some pages back there was some discussion about cholesterol levels. Did anyone see Trust Me I'm a Doctor on BBC last night? They did an experiment with 3 groups of 10 people. One group reduced dairy / animal products in their diet, one group increased plant stuff e.g. porridge, and another group ate almonds.
Michael Mosley combined all 3 in the Portfolio diet.
His cholesterol went down by a massive amount, and the first 2 of the other groups went down by a statistically significant amount. The third group averaged at no impact, although 50% had a large positive impact and the other 50% was a negative impact.
Glad to hear about exchange Maggie. The end of an era is always hard to get your head around, even if you know there are good reasons for the change.
Hope you're OK, Spirit and LIR.
Dad is now in a neurological rehab / assessment unit. It's 3 weeks since his episode - now known to be a stroke (of the bleed variety, not the typical blood clot variety). Impact is on the right side of the brain i.e. personality, cognition, behaviour - rather than the left side of the brain i.e. motor function. They can't yet say whether there's early signs of dementia too
He was admitted into a local hospital last Monday after Mum got the GP referral / assessment escalated, but he then walked out of the hospital late in the evening 2 days later. The police found him 3 miles away after 3 hours' searching  He was quite happy but couldn't give a cohesive explanation of why he'd left or where he was going.
Mum is finding it hard going. Some old family friends have been superb, going with her a couple of times and being willing to be rung up whenever.
At the moment I'm trying to be there at the end of a phone for her, to allow her to let off steam. Trouble is, there's then nobody around for me to let off steam to or get a hug from.
I've offered to go down south but Mum has said not to do so. In a way I'm pleased - don't want to see Dad at his lowest. I think I'm in denial about the reality of it at the moment - thinking about it too much risks grieving for what might never be again.
I have booked train tickets to travel down south in August, when my brother will be over for a week with my niece. I suspect Dad will be home by then as the results of his assessments will be discussed by a multi-disciplinary team in a week.0 -
Yorkie, you can let off steam here. it really helps.
Rather than the avoidant behaviour, you might find it a relief to see his current condition and it is useful as a reference to acknowledge his future progress.
This may be a watershed in terms of your dad's capabilities and the sense of loss is understandable, My daughter took it very badly when I told her I was retiring. it brought homethe extent of the brain injury and loss of cognitive skills. In that sense, her busy driven mum had gone . However she has been with me all the way and notices small signs of physical improvement and celebrates them, she now makes more time for me and plans and enables us to do things together.0 -
Nothing insightful to say, Yorkie, but you have my best wishes xx0

Thanks all.
I don't know if the wandering will become a regular occurrence but a GPS tracker watch might be worthwhile investigating - though Dad still wears the watch he was given on his 21st birthday, so fears about him not wearing it are entirely valid.
You're right about my avoidant behaviour Spirit. I think he is making progress, from reassuring reports via Mum / brother / friends. I'll be home in 3 weeks' time, so will use that as my benchmark. Obviously if anything else happens I'll go down sooner though to support Mum.
Generally, I'm holding up really well in many ways. Sleep is OK. Anxiety levels not rising significantly. Mostly dealing with work fine. At weekends I'm not doing much - escaping the world with lots of chick lit ebooks, and generally doing things more slowly. But I'm OK with that as a coping strategy for now.0 -
Has anyone else been watching 'Married at first sight' on Ch4? Can't believe we've got to wait another week for the next episode
I so want the couples to work out.
Apologies for quoting myself. but hope lir is able to watch/ catch up with tonight's episode. Doozergirl - did you see it?
Not going to say anything else as don't want to spoil anything :silenced:0 -

I'd not do it.
I think I would.
But today's probably not a good day to judge.
I spent a great deal of today giggling and blushing.
I think I have a crush0 -

You need to get us a sneaky photo though ...it's the law.
Very little chance. I already have a number of people winding me up about it at work (some of whom share aforementioned crush but are spoken for).
I think you'd need to be there in person to 'get it'. And there a certain 'je ne sais quoi' (well, I have a good idea - some men look REALLY good in a white T-shirt apparently) today. I'm hoping it will have subsided by tomorrow. Couldn't concentrate today0
