If you're big enough to supply supermarkets, you're big enough to hire trucks and export your goods or put them in cold storage. If you're a bakery, you can stop baking. The flour will keep a while. The Greeks are lovely, and I don't wish a famine on them, but it's a possible outcome.
I'm astounded that there's still any money left in Greek banks. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Well, a 60 EUR a day Economy anyway 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Mum and dad seem ok, they feel safe and have two weeks cash left but they are due to fly back home at the end of July so let's hope it stays that way. The small town they are staying at there is no panic, ATM queues were 2-5 deep no different from here on a busy day really.
Barter is widely in operation and always has been in the smaller parts of the country, the economy has always been cash, cards are a tourist invention. A lot of food is grown in the countryside by grandad, dad or uncle, then cousin George brings in the morning catch fresh each morning and it's all cooked by extended family and sold by son and daughter waiting on tables all day. Makes fabulous people watching apparently!
Dad has been up in the mountains at the family plot where they farm sheep and goats. They grow grapes and vegetables, there is no electricity grid so they have solar panels and battery packs which nicely avoids the electricity meter taxes, life is very simple for the ordinary Greek. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Odd and unexpected find. Started looking into a family line only to discover something "a bit posh" (in a yokel way). The family were more prolific than rabbits, but, between them they seemed to own a lot of identical businesses.
A man's written a whole PhD that gives loads of details etc about them and there's even a local village here where we have "the right to walk down the centre of the road and all traffic must give way to us".. The right was given in a Charter.
How peculiar.
They were so prolific, I bet half of the county must be descended from them though.0 -

£1277/month. "Worth more" in what's known as a "cheap country to live in".
Just need top make sure you get paid daily rather than it getting to the end of the month and your employer only being able to pay to 60 EUR - or perhaps even only able to pay 60 eur per day spread between all his employees.....I think....0 -

well that is ATM withdrawals, i would guess transfers inside greece bank accounts would be ok, transfers from abroad in more thank OK. Be interesting to see what foreigners can withdraw from an ATM, something that i hope will be tested in the next day or two.
edit - just spoke to mum they could withdraw money a few days ago but local greeks could not get any at all on occasions. They will try again later. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -

I'm so annoyed.
When Fir was off work I had a scheduled appt at the hospital I was told I had to be refered to NHs, as opposed to the NHs hospital my team had recommended and asked for. Fir chose his work start date based on this date, and then the hospital cancelled it, and moved the date, and we simply couldn't do it in his first couple of weeks at work, and they couldn't do it on one of the two days off a week he has.( this is one of the difficulties with health system, too inflexible) so we agreed a date of next week, fir has taken day off, and I just had the automated call to say its THIS week.
Called to say, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, and the person who deals with appointments for thT department only works Wednesday and Thursdays, and so cannot take the call....so my appointment would count as a missed one I guess, and certainly not be given to some one else. Fir would not accept this and went from person to person, up a chain who refused to deal with it saying only this person could. It was only when he asked how to make a complaint about waste of money from missed appointments that suddenly so done found themselves available to do it, but the consultant's time seems unlikely to be offered to some one else. So how come its not an issue when the Hospital waste the money/resources?.
Luckily we got an appointment later this month, so not sure why the wait has been so long.. More cancelled not re offered appts maybe?
