Not that I have ever used a slow cooker or know anything about cooking, but I would brown the onions before putting them in the slow cooker. Otherwise, you just end up with boiled onions, which are pretty tasteless.

Yes, but browning's not an option for me .... and I do like onions, so lobbed them because I had them, I like them, it's the norm to put onions into chilli.

What happens if you pop the onions into the sc as the first ingredient, without any liquid, and just leave them to cook for a while on their own? Maybe with a bit of marg?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Hello from the coast!

Fir is off to work now ( this being a busman's holiday of sorts) and I'm waiting for our room to be ready. So I can get the legs up and have a rest before meeting him and friend this evening.

The exciting part of this morning is that a few years ago we decided to buy a piece of art each year of our marriage. We have bought still life for the cheese room till now but this morning we bought one of this artist's woodblocks

It will remind us of our Brighton trip

Given a choice of that lot, I think I'd have picked this one http://static.wixstatic.com/media/a93a0d_c17411de654d09479cd638db0238b67e.jpg_srb_p_1000_255_75_22_0.50_1.20_0.00_jpg_srb

The rest are a "bit fussy" for me.

Ours is very similar to that. But a bit bigger.

    It was funny buying it.

We thought the price was really good, especially compared to the smaller pieces, and the size is good for where we want to put it.

We were happy at the asking price....the gallery owner was shocked, and just gave us ten percent for being 'green'. But we had discussed before that our buying point was over 30 percent higher than her asking price. She said she'd had problems selling it because of the weight of it. Its not that heavy, we have much heavier things hanging.

It's a deep burgundy and the jacket has piping round the lapel and some pleats at the waist.

    This one?

    Looks fab.

As a fully unpaid member of the peasant classes, I'd never even heard the name before (nor any other names that might also be found in such shops) ... having looked at the photo I can confirm that if I put it on it'd drown me and I'd look like I was dressed in the proverbial sack.

I don't "carry" clothes well. Especially anything with bits/bobs, like tucks, pleats, belts, frilly things, piping....

I had a cheeky snifter of the chilli .... and it was cooked .... and another 10 minutes or so later I cracked and had a whole bowl of it :)

There's not a lot left. I just had a bowl of the meat/beans/tomato mix, nothing else. Eaten with a teaspoon from a smallish cereal bowl :)

Tempted to finish the lot off..... even though it's really a sort of "serves 5, with pasta/rice" type of size.

500g mince, big tin of beans ....

I saw an ad yesterday for cute italian biscuits in Lidl. Love those things too. Need to find a Lidl!

The man behind me in the queue was buying biscotti. They looked lovely. I was well behaved and just got milk and half price tomatoes.

To balance things out I'm partaking in a glass of red wine day in the garden to celebrate the sun being out :)
