Ah, thanks for the suggestion. I had no idea that I should have put a bowl of hot water in the oven. I'll try that next time.
I've heard of this and then recently saw/read some further stuff on it. One contestant in the Great British Bake Off hadn't used an electric oven before and there was some mention of water in electric ovens to create steam ... and there's some issue over whether that's safe.
I then heard another snippet, where they glossed over it, I think on Saturday Kitchen maybe once, where they indicated that putting water into electric ovens wasn't the best idea.
I think it's mostly for gas and/or commercial ovens, or to accept that water inside electric ovens, more than occasionally, might kill them off earlier than expected. With a cheap oven, pretty quickly.
So, if you do pursue it, might be worth a proper read up about it (rather than seeing it as a regularly appearing one liner on online recipes, provided with gay abandon). Try to separate the facts from people's tittle tattle.
This fella seems to give some warnings about why it might be a bad idea: http://www.thefreshloaf.com/lessons/tentips_1_steam for example.0 -

Sounds likes a home from home! Would love to
Not sure when I'm next round your way but will try to remember to let you know.0 -

Do (a).
I did (b) yesterday and it was unsatisfying, surprisingly.

Surely most food gives of steam while it cooks so ovens should be able to cope with it shouldn't they?I think....0 -

I dunno. I'd like "them" to fix the things that PN would like fixed - for her sake, not ours - like the fear of ovens, for example. Just think how pleased we all were when she overcame her fear of actually using her SC, and how much fun she's had since cooking nommish things to eat in it.Doozergirl wrote: »Aaaaaarrrgh. I looked for a pic of it to show you which one it is, but there aren't any. Presumably the reason it's in the outlet shop is because it's last season, or something. It's a deep burgundy and the jacket has piping round the lapel and some pleats at the waist.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Got the mince, it's only £1.55 too, so I got two. Second one's in the freezer. Didn't get bread as the shelves were empty of the 40p loaves I buy. Got cheesecakes, resisted sweeties. Got eggs and spuds.
Long wait at the tills as it was the girl's first day.
Now I'm back, mince into the SC ....and no soddin' kidney beans. In the past I've always had 2-3 cans, never using them... but I've been using them recently and they're not on my radar to buy them. So I'll pop out a bit later to get some. So it's just mince, on its own, in the SC for now.
Happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Threw in a can in Heinz beansEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

PasturesNew wrote: »That's exactly the decision I came to a few minutes ago. I've always got plenty of cheap beans (no Heinz here!) ... and I've picked up the Lidl beans in the past thinking I'll try them and never getting round to it. So I'll nuke a can and lob them in. Better do it now.
I'd already lobbed in a can of tomatoes and lashings of chilli... if I'd thought of beans earlier I'd have probably dispensed with the tomatoes. I've given up putting onions in, I don't like the way onions come out in a lot of instances in the SC.
Not that I have ever used a slow cooker or know anything about cooking, but I would brown the onions before putting them in the slow cooker. Otherwise, you just end up with boiled onions, which are pretty tasteless. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
