I made challahs for tonight. First time I have done this. Fortunately, they rose. Wholemeal, which is worth at least one nom.

The crusts are a bit thin. Does anyone know how to make thicker crusts? Bake it longer and cooler, or shorter and hotter?

I agree, probably not worth eating with such thin crusts. I will do you a favour and take them off your hands, all you need to do is get the couriered over here while they are still warm...nom nom nom

Usual disaster on Grand Designs (More 4)! :rotfl:

Was supposed to cost about 800K but now is 1.2 million! And now they've just hit problems with digging foundations - it's right by the Thames.

It's rarely as much of a problem as it looks. Doozer and I have not seen that one before but both commented immediately that it would be over a million. They still managed the perfectly landscaped garden and expensive fittings.

I found her a bit silly, saying that the house was a reflection of them as people. And then later she talked about her inspiration of adverts with crisp white houses and fluffy dogs. Her personality or a marketer's dream?

I thought the outside was beautiful. The basement looked like a waste of money.

Big slice please, topped with cheese and grilled. Then keep them coming until I am the size of a planet.

    Impressive plaiting!

Clueless on how to make thicker crusts, may be something to do with the amount of fat in your dough?

Look perfect to me! Never had whole meal challah,

I wonder if a bowl of water or some ice cubes in the oven might work, or just make them crusty ( its normal purpose) rather than thicker crusted.

Ah, thanks for the suggestion. I had no idea that I should have put a bowl of hot water in the oven. I'll try that next time.

Assuming it's a type bread, put a bowl of water in the bottom of the oven or even spray the air in the oven with some water.
