DD is going through GCSEs at the moment. Actually, correct that. The whole family is going through the GCSE process ;)

Anyway, I had this idea that for me to help I would have to refresh my academic skills.

In short, I have to say I am *so* impressed by the quality of tuition you can find online.

Don't understand refraction in Physics? You can sit through a number of videos online and step through it until it sinks in.

I feel we need nothing short of a revolution in education. Our young are being left behind my students in other countries with what seems greater drive and determination.

I'm not sure just building schools solves the problem.

I did a crash course in level 3 business studies in 2 days to help Josh out.....he learnt more in the following 5 days than he had in a year at 6th form, mainly because I know his learning style and he had lost his support in class.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

That frother would be me, unless there is unlimited social housing then we arbitarily end up giving some people cheap housing and not others - how is this fair? Surely it would make more sense for the council to get the biggest return possible from their assets by charging market rents and then share out any 'profit' on basis of need, not how long someone has been on a list? Don't forget housing benefit is paid by central govt so it seems like locally charging market rentb for social housing is a win-win.

    It's needs based here....

My house is not far away from what is charged privately for an exact same house, there is only a difference of about £50 a month (not surprised, not sure how many would be brave enough to buy one of these!) but then we are housing association tenants and their rents do tend to be a little higher than council rents.

Lemonjelly, There's a footpath starting at Sea Palling and going right round the coast to Hunstanton. Around 70 miles in total, but you can just do whatever bits you like.

Foodery: I'm not sure what you mean by affordable. Do you want to give a figure? We don't find Morston Hall affordable, but some people must think it is.

Try the Gunton Arms. We've never been, because it's a meat place, and we prefer fish or veggie, but it's supposed to be very good. Their prices are on the website.

I'd avoid Cromer, unless you just want fish and chips. Even then, I'm not convinced.
    Thanks GBD.
I guess affordable would be under £15 per person. Most of us ain't well off, all are MSE.

:( Have we had the new car for a month yet? Guess so as DW managed to drive into someone this evening, doesn't look too bad but something is broken in the steering. Luckily know one seems to be hurt but they are all shaken up.
    I think....

I wouldn't do long-term damage to it but it aching more? Meh.

After 100kms pretty much everything hurts anyway. More than a couple of thousand feet of climbing does the same thing.

So this was today's ride (DQWD):

Check out my 100.6 km Ride on Strava: http://app.strava.com/activities/308625422

The ride distance is ~63miles in the old money with 4000ft of climbing. I used about 2,500 cals in the ride which kinda says it all.

Glutes (bum) hurt after the first good climb. Thighs were fine throughout but my calves were constantly just about to cramp from about half way onwards.

Ideally I'd get the time down to 4:30 in a month and I'd really like to be doing it in 4hrs by the end of winter.

I'd love to do the 107km version of this:

    http://springcycle.com.au/ride-info/ride-options/

    and finish before 11am.

I suspect 11:30am is more practical, given that there's always plenty of congestion at the start.

I wouldn't get much further than a few metres before my knees and hips dislocated and my back seized. I was never great on a bike, even fell off and bit into the road when I was 11 meaning that I had to have two false front teeth.

Long distance running however, was my bag...could run for miles and it was the same for walking, even in high heels! Now I can't even (very) slow walk to the post box 9 doors away.

It's not going to be all matchy-matchy. But on the other hand I would like the rooms to look like they belong to the same person who decorated them. Especially after so many years of renting, so living with my bedding and whatever the decor happened to be in the place I was living.

Plus I won't be decorating every 5 minutes. When I start (not any time soon as bigger things like heating, bathroom, need tackling first) I think it'll be done once and maintained rather than continually changing (unless I win the lottery).
With you on the decorating there mate! Approaching a year here, & I've only painted the summerhouse, and the shed!:rotfl:

Which sounds reasonable to me. However if you were paying half market rate and due to a change in circumstances no longer needed subsidised housing you would still get it even though those in much more need would not get it which just seems wrong to me.

Or just had bad/ the wrong teachers etc.

There is so much to learn/ discover. Definitely a life long activity.

Youngest - Did better than he had been predicted when he was in primary school but worse than was expected when he started his GCSE years due to them ignoring his statement. Now moved school and is getting distinctions.
