Just had a look at the tax credits calculator, it appears we will be eligible for nothing when mini me is born.

As it is I can child care vouchers through work and get on the scheme before it closes in October so not all bad.

Why doesn't the Mirror bloody well hack my phone? £200k compensation would soothe the distress I would undoubtedly feel.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Alternatively why was it the end of the world according to the bbc and gordian when the murdoch owned news of the world hacked phones but a mere trifle when the the labour leaning mirror did it. Similarly where are the high profile criminal trials?
    I think....

If your DW is not working she should claim child benefit even if you have to pay it all back cos you earn over 50k as she gets pension ni credits if she does so.
    I think....

Maybe they did, but decided not to publish voice mails like "I took the mutt for a poo, home now"

To some posters on this forum that would cause major frothing as a huge "subsidy" being offered to the Social Housing tenant, even though there should be no need for a social landlord to make a profit, and that particular property would have been bought and paid for long ago.

How anyone can argue that there is not a huge need for more social housing in this country completely baffles me.

That frother would be me, unless there is unlimited social housing then we arbitarily end up giving some people cheap housing and not others - how is this fair? Surely it would make more sense for the council to get the biggest return possible from their assets by charging market rents and then share out any 'profit' on basis of need, not how long someone has been on a list? Don't forget housing benefit is paid by central govt so it seems like locally charging market rentb for social housing is a win-win.

Frothing on the housing board would be outrage that the private landlord is getting twice as much rent as the social landlord and if private rents weren't so high, greedy landlords wouldn't be pushing up house prices.

DM readers would sat that it is all paid for by housing benefit anyway.

I'm baffled with the regularity with which schools have to be demolished and replaced. How fast do they deteriorate? Why were they allowed to build flat roofs to save a few bob?

Round here they sold off some schools to make way for houses - because land is at a premium. Now those houses are built and occupied by families with children who need a school. So they need to build more schools!

In short, I have to say I am *so* impressed by the quality of tuition you can find online.

Don't understand refraction in Physics? You can sit through a number of videos online and step through it until it sinks in.

Can you recommend any in particular? DS would much prefer to revise from videos than from anything written. He has excellent ones for maths, but hasn't found any particularly good ones for other subjects.

And of course, if you know of really good physics ones, I'll recommend them to my students. :)

Not exactly the same, but I do remember interviewing a lady during the school holidays once. She had 2 youngish kids with her. The kids were bored, & we had a big interview room, so they were playing while she was explaining her problems to me. I blanked them out tbh, but you could see she was getting stressed. After she'd vented, she grabbed them & announced loudly that they needed to be quiet and behave because "this man is trying to help us!"

I didn't know who "this man" was, & actually looked around for him before realising she meant me. :o Think it was the first time I'd been called a man as opposed to a boy or youth/similar.

I remember the first time I was referred to as "the lady". I was 16ish, I think, and on a train sitting next to a family with small children.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I saved the Physics ones in a file, err somewhere...it'll on one of the virtual machines. I just did a search in youtube really.

    I still have one problem!!

It's still DD sitting the exam, and she seems less inclined to focus. Not much I can do about that!

Oh, I'm not dissing current education. I just think we could achieve so much more.

What if we paid the best teachers extra for putting bite sized clips on one of the video websites.

(I think I must be a displaced Victorian. I remember when the Victorians set many of the measurement standards we use today in the world. I wish we could set the pace once again.)
