    A Good Day today (kinda).

I've been forced to give up drinking alcohol for reasons that need not detain us. I think it's fair to say that it's been a partial success over the past few weeks but now I'm on day 4 dry and not really that fussed about having a drink today despite now being the sort of time I'd have one. Or a few. A few, let's face it.

Anyhoo as you guys know I've gone back to the cycling and it's been kinda depressing. I used to think nothing of a couple of hundred km ride and now I'm blowing hard at 20. A farmer once told me that the seeds ain't gonna grow in the packet so I applied the same logic to cycling and did 100kms. Did it in a little over 5 hours which is a dreadful time given the terrain but I made it. It was possibly the least pleasant experience since radiotherapy.

You have to get a lot of sugar down you as fuel when you ride distance (1g of carbs per kg of weight per hour). I'd forgotten that you need to get your stomach used to that and I was sick as a dog. It was horrible. I did 100.6km though and the next time will be easier and the time after that easier still.

Mixed fuels required for the next few rides I think. I'll take some pasta and have a halfway stop perhaps.

Would it help your back if you got handlebars that gave you a more upright posture, perhaps? It would obviously hurt your times, but would that matter, seeing as you are only competing against yourself?

Lemonjelly, There's a footpath starting at Sea Palling and going right round the coast to Hunstanton. Around 70 miles in total, but you can just do whatever bits you like.

Foodery: I'm not sure what you mean by affordable. Do you want to give a figure? We don't find Morston Hall affordable, but some people must think it is.

Try the Gunton Arms. We've never been, because it's a meat place, and we prefer fish or veggie, but it's supposed to be very good. Their prices are on the website.

I'd avoid Cromer, unless you just want fish and chips. Even then, I'm not convinced.

To some posters on this forum that would cause major frothing as a huge "subsidy" being offered to the Social Housing tenant, even though there should be no need for a social landlord to make a profit, and that particular property would have been bought and paid for long ago.

How anyone can argue that there is not a huge need for more social housing in this country completely baffles me.

That frother would be me, unless there is unlimited social housing then we arbitarily end up giving some people cheap housing and not others - how is this fair? Surely it would make more sense for the council to get the biggest return possible from their assets by charging market rents and then share out any 'profit' on basis of need, not how long someone has been on a list? Don't forget housing benefit is paid by central govt so it seems like locally charging market rentb for social housing is a win-win.
    I think....

When people sign up at the library, they self declare their title. I can't remember the last time a young woman joined and ticked the Ms box.

It's odd that something which 30 years ago was quite liberating is now so passe.

I use all three titles, I am miss maiden name, ms maiden name, and ms or mrs maiden nam husbands name.

I can never remember what I am, where, except at work and the bank where I am miss. I am going to migrate to being mrs now I think, after 32 years and with no professional recognition to consider anymore I think I am ready to acknowledge fully my married status.

Actually for me it's more about frame geometry and the geometry of the frame on my current bike is brilliant.

Yes, a Dutch-style sit-up-and-beg is great on the back but realistically you're not going to do more than a few 10s of kms on one, it's just too hard. I did ride up Alpe D'Huez on one of those though, that was a laugh.

I'm pleased you haven't rushed into it and made any overly-hasty decisions. :)

DW took my surname when we married, even though her maiden name was easier to spell. She just has the one surname, and no "also-known-as" names.

Just found a "pointless course" advertised. Who'd know such things existed. 4 evenings, Gourmet Garnishes: In this course, students will learn to create stunning garnishes for their buffet or party food.

    :)

What a twee world they must live in.

I thought "garnish" meant "sprinkle some chopped parsley on it"

Don't forget the sad-looking lettuce leaf and the quarter of an unripe tomato.

Are you actually saying what I think you are saying? You'll sacrifice your back in order to do more kms? That's proper dedication.

Did he also tell you that Rome wasn't built in a day?

My mum and I were both watching the same programme last night - one about what rich people eat (or want to be seen eating/ give their rich friends to eat; Ch4 8pm). We were texting each other things like 'they hand pick my food and put it in a special area just in case I pop in' (i.e. we buy from the reduction area). There was a bit on the programme about some chap who plays jazz to salmon whilst it's being smoked, so I suggested I would start playing jazz to my tins of tuna.

Well, we found it funny anyway :o

Most of my food gets jazz played to it at weekends, whether I like it or not :D.
