I used goofbay for the first time today on 5 items and I won one..the other 4 was because I was too tight and didn't offer enough!lol I don't think I would use it all the time but it is very good if you aren't in and want to wait til last seconds!

I normally bid my decided maximum early on an item if no bids are already bidded.
Otherwise I sometimes use justsnipe (five free bids per week), the only downside to sniping I have found is if my (higher) bid is close to the second highest bid, i.e. less than one whole bidding step, the second highest bid wins because he bid first. So you can lose the item even though you bidded higher than the winning bidder! Whereas, if you had bid early on you would have won (provided he didnt raise his bid upon being outbid by your bid). Am I making sense???

Grouping of bids is very useful, especially as more people snipe and the price of everything stays at 99p (until the last few seconds). If you search for xyz mobile phone, and you know most will sell for £50, it makes your life a lot easier if some are at £40 already - you can just ignore them. You can't risk sniping all the others, so you organise the snipes into a group where if you win one it cancels all the others.

IMO sniping in itself is a good idea. Separate but related is the use of a sniping site, which I do because it is more convenient than trying to remember to get to a computer for the end of each auction. I'd be happy to pay for the convenience but for a few bids a month, its not worth the $50 most places want. Maybe the recession will bring prices down.

I have used Bidnapper.com for 2 years with no problems, but just can't justify the expense anymore.

Thanks to those who've put suggestions here. I will look into them.

Don't use one at the moment. They are currently seem as unauthorized third parties and Ebay lock up your account if you do.

I got one of those messages yesterday...frozen account is coming from ebay not goofbay....well so I was reading anyway...

and say your account was hijacked would you not have a email in your inbox saying password change....??????? I never had one so how could the hackers change my password...????

nah I reckon its down to ebay not wanting last minute bids...

fair enough if thats the way its gonna be...these things happen, will be gutted though..but for gods sake yesterday knocked 5 years off my life...:rotfl: :rotfl: I was hyperventaling trying to get it sorted!!:o
