I've never used a snipe before on ebay so I tried goofbay this afternoon.
It worked and I won the item I was after for a great price!
    Well chuffed!

    I use auction sentry ..
Snipping an item is more about getting the item as cheaply as possible ,than winning every bid .
lets say an item comes up ..for example a nice watch ..i know it's worth £300 ....So i think I'll try £150 ...that would be a real bargain...
You then see my £150 and say well ...it's still abargain at £155 ..3 days to go before end of auction and me and you get into a bidding war ...Item sells to one of us for £250..
Now if I snipe the same item ..You stick a bid on for £155 ..Think your home and dry ...I still think it's worth £300 so stick a snipe on at £200 ...But win at your max with no bidding war ..probably £180 ..
To be honest I have won as many auctions because of bidding none regular ammounts ...eg £13.01 rather than £10.00 As i win sniped ...But it is fun imagining the other persons face .. :)
  • The point in the sniper is exactly that,it will bid your highest bid at the latest time you desire, you may be unavailable in a few hours when your listing you want ends,so you bid the highest your willing to pay,and if you get outbid then fine.it just saves pushing the price of an item up prematurely.
    ...work permit granted!

sorry to bring up an old thread (but at least it proves i searched first ;)) - i won't be in to bid last minute tomorrow, any updates on what software is best? given my account hijacking recently, i'm very very cautious about giving out my details, but since that whole mess made me miss an auction i wanted, i now want to bid ont he same item from someone else (and just my luck i won't be near a computer when it ends!).

wow- never knew there were so many different sniper tools!

I use auctionstealer, I have done for years, never caused me any problems re: supplying password and user name. Have won a good few auctions with it. It bids about 5 seconds or so to ending (don't quote me on that, its either 10, 5 or 2) you can pay around $1 or something small like that to get more chances as you get 3 per week each week.
  • I've never understood why people pay to use a sniper when there are free ones out there!

I use Goofbay and it's never let me down.

The main thing is to use one that has its own server and does not bid from your PC in case of connection problems your end.
  • My vote also goes to GOOFBAY, it's free and has never let me down - maybe they have eliminated the problems earlier in the thread bearing in mind those posts are dated 2007.

    Could be :rotfl:

I like to use a sniper because we cannot access Ebay at work and sometimes the times that auctions finish are just not convenient. It also stops me getting caught up in a 'bidding war', I set my maximum price (including postage) and that stays my maximum.
