It was probably a mistake to agree to pass on a message.
Your parents need to be clear that (a) you do not live at that address (b) you cannot be contacted on that number, (c) they will not be passing on messages and (d) if it continues they will be making a complaint.
In practice, they may need some form of call blocking.0 -
Thanks again for the replies.
So opposed to ignoring them I should now contact them or am I getting mixed up?
Thanks

No doubt they will ring the number they hold again. You're parents need to tell them that you no longer live there and they do not wish to be contacted at their number again.
Once they are told they should stop ringing, if they don't your parents may have to be a bit more forceful if it bothers them.
Unfortunately phone numbers are very easy to harvest, sometimes something as simple as an application for something can disclose your phone number.0 -
Ok well I have spoken with them and told them whats going on they have the number and as they have caller ID they are going to tell them not to call again the next call they receive and then after that any more calls they are going to ignore. If they continue to ring them I have advised that they get the number blocked by their provider for harassment and if they start using different numbers to contact the police and inform them of harassment.
Thanks

Contacting them is more likely to get them to stop hounding you than not contacting them, but do it in writing and make sure you tell them you dispute the debt and they should pass it back to Excel. What will your verse be?

Thanks,
Another update to this I have received another letter from Rossendales Collect today to my parents house before I had written my own letter to them.
It states:
"You have failed to respond to our previous letter. This may result in either a recommendation to our client for legal action to commence against you or a visit from a doorstep collector to obtain payment or discuss a repayment structure.
If legal action were to be taken, your debt would increase in respect of court fees and legal costs.
** big scary red writing**
THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THIS MATTER MAY PROCEED TO COURT, WE RECOMMEND YOU MAKE A PAYMENT IN FULL NOW.
Call *Insert Number Here*
If we do not hear from you within 7 days from the postmark of this letter, collection procedures will continue."
So I gather the doorstep collector cant come to my door since
a. they don't have my actual address
b. its illegal for them to do so since they haven't got a court appointed bailiff to enforce the collection?
What is the recommended way forward? Continue to ignore the letter and let them pass it back to Excel and see what happens next? or write them a letter back?
Also the letter is dated 3 days ago so already I only have 4 days anyway which seems pathetic anyway...
Thanks
James0
