MSE News: EE unveils portable smartphone chargers to replace 'Orange Wednesdays'

This is just another money making ploy from EE, (as is their 50p 'jump the queue' charge) .
I texted for this 'free' charger last week and heard nothing, no code, no response.
On ringing today I was told I should have got a text saying they were out of stock until end of June!
I hope to leave EE when my contract ends, so I will just have to pay their 35p cost of the text and learn from my mistakes
The 35p is only charged when they send you the text with the code, (it is not a chargeable text for you sending POWER), so if you don't send another text you will not be charged anything.
I sent 2 texts, one to JOIN, (as I did not have a registered EE mobile), then from a reply to that text I sent one to POWER, I only got charged 35p in total for the text back that gave me the code.
 .Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

It's not a free charger that you can just walk away with - it's a free 'hire' agreement that you're entering into. As you state that you're hoping to leave EE anyway - why would you even want one? When you end your EE contract - you'd have to hand it back. This is just another money making ploy from EE, (as is their 50p 'jump the queue' charge) .

Did you think that it was something that you could just get from EE and walk away into the sunset with?
A similar charger can be had for about a fiver anyway - they're nothing special. The only potential benefit IMO would be if you worked in town and were easily able to pass an EE shop, where you could exchange an empty charger for a full one.
I think that a lot of people have just thought "woohoo" - something substantial for free - without looking into the T's & C's first.0

Asked for name ID, phone number,(phone number was a landline as I don't have a registered mobile just EE broadband and landline), and code, never asked to see the sms even though I had it with me.
 .
I picked up 2 today, had the codes on PAYG simcards I had, neither sim was registered to my home details, all the staff asked for was the codes from the text messages.
The "hire" portion of this is going to be quite difficult to enforce when all the have is a PAYG number with very little credit on them.====0

Yes, it says as much in this very thread, over a week ago...Due to high demand EE have paused the issuing of codes until the end of June while they deal with the backlog after over 1 million requests

I have been trying since 16 April, text Join to 60005 as instructed for landline and broadband customers, message came back " number not recognised" so phoned number customer services, just keep getting transferred to another section and having to wait in a Q for ages each time. must have now phoned over 6 times, even been in to EE shop, just keep getting fobbed off by everyone with no one wanting to take responsibility. Now been told offer closed till after 24 June. What a con!!0

I think the "hire agreement" is a just an accounting trick to save tax or make the books look better for EE
For the accountants it is better to do a free hire than write off assets by giving out free gifts.
I doubt very much if they intend to actually recover millions of second hand batteries.0
