    As for de-registering a car, I think it only applies to brand new cars..
    The cancellation of a registration (de-registration) is an extra-statutory concession that will only be allowed where a dealer has registered a vehicle in an independent customer’s name and then (through no fault of their own) the sale has fallen through and (but for cancellation) the dealer would be left with an apparently second-hand vehicle on their hands. The registration fee is not refundable when a vehicle is de-registered. When the vehicle is subsequently re-registered under a new registration number, the registration fee will need to be paid

    I wouldn't worry about it, he was clueless this morning and is now an expert. He would never tell us anything other than he's had a full refund and they haven't had his pants down.

    Everyone knows he paid a deposit and agreed to buy a car, yet he now has an out because he forgot a piece of paper and the garage didn't speak to him properly.

    Nope. Posted this, spent 5 minutes talking to my lawyer and then documented the contents of the conversation with the sales manager this evening...

    I've wasted longer posting on here than anything else...

    The advice from SteveJW is very good but sadly irrelevant here as it was a demonstrator I was buying rather than brand new...

    So its now got 2 owners instead of 1... And thats one of the two bits I don't understand

    1) why would anyone (especially a garage) send off the V5 before everything is 100% complete..
    2) why are the garage (having lost a small amount of money) willing to return the deposit without a fight..

    Legally, and no matter what your "lawyer" told you, they werent obliged to give you a full refund. Clearly they have so they could wash their hands of you.

    Theres two sides to every story, and i'm very sure the dealers side is very different to yours.

    Which sums it up well, he lost all credibility when he felt the need to mention how much he earns. Then later says he's buying a demonstrator. :rotfl:
