Yeah I agree with this. I really believe the women have a vast choice to pick from as there are far more men on there than women.
Which is why I am thinking of biting the bullet and going to a paid site as I feel there would be less men looking for one night stands. Can't decide between Match or Zoosk.
I've had 2 Relationships from Match (one short term) and about 4 first dates, POF i've had one relationship (short term) and about the same first dates that never went anywhere.
So from that I would say try Match but I think someone on here said OKCupid was better. Part of my issue is location, not that many available girls in Central Scotland, I mean compared to like the big English cities. I done a search the other day on Match for really suitable girls in a 20 mile radius and about 4 came up and I think I had either emailed at least 2 of them and the other 2 had kids.
I'll also say something that many guys have said, and been said on here, is that online dating is that you are competing with many guys to one girl, and usually those guys are the banter type guys, good at at chatting up and looking for one night stands.0 -

Having done contract work on a site of this nature many years ago the data at the time actually suggested a lower response rate on paid sites compared to free ones. Probably as the paid sites do quite a lot of cheap tricks to make it look like they have more active users than they actually do.
So you personally wouldn't recommend going to a pay site?0 -

I would go that far. I wouldn't automatically assume that paid vs free is going to be better though.
If you're looking to meet someone then I guess you can take a chance. I think someone said it works out at £10 for a six month subscription. Are you willing to spend £60 to meet someone.
Personally I've always thought it would be far easier to meet someone in person. I'm not looking to date, but have been asked out a few times over the last few years.
With any online dating site you're going to be one of a number of voices trying to be heard at any one time. In person you'll have that persons sole focus at the moment you make an approach.0 -
Nothing wrong with your situ, in fact you might miss it after a few years of being married/in a relationship!!0

That's fair enough but we don't live forever and there is an urgency for all people to achieve certain things before they get a lot older. Personally I wish I had met and settled ten years ago as girls around my age now and wanting the same thing are now thin on the ground. The thought, and odds of, actually meeting someone compatible starts to diminish rapidly at this age. I'm not being pessimistic it's just fact.0 -

Some people's achievement might just want to stay happy, and that might not involve marriage and kids (not that we know this at the time!)0 -
As for my profile, feel free to take a look yourself and let me know if there is anything wrong. Christmas_lover76
I looked at your POF profile and it seems fine... but not sure about your second photo. It's a weird choice for a dating profile... or perhaps it's just me being uptight0 -
An ex boss of mine is 48, seeing a girl aged 32 and they're planning to start a family. HIS dad was 59 when he was born!
My gran keeps asking if I have found a husband yet (I'm 30). I can't even have a boyfriend first, it seems!0 -

I like the second photo! It's a nice change from someone showing off their fancy holiday snaps where it's all scenery and they're just a tiny blob and you can't see what they look like. It shows he's fun too - I love fancy dress
Can you add more pics to your POF profile, OP? When I was internet dating I was always attracted to profiles with lots of pictures as it helps get a feel of what the person's like.
I was on Oasis (free site) which was dreadful but I met my now fianc! on the Guardian's dating site - best £60 odd quid I ever spent, though at the time I did slightly begrudge paying that!0 -
Hi all,
Anyone got any advice on how to cheer myself up?
38 year old male and have been single again since the beginning of the year. Live alone in my flat. No children.
Feel depressed as I feel I would really would like to have been married and have my own children by now. Feels like I have missed the boat and will be single for every. Too old for children.
Have tried POF but not having much luck on their. Can't really afford Match.com or Zoosk and not even sure they would be any better.
Need to get out and meet people but most of my friends are settled down now.
Hi Mate,
The most easy way is thru facebook. There is million of people out there and I am sure you will bump into someone you like.
Secondly, facebook.com is free.
Cheers
