Thank you. Thank you so much for your kind words. I am a bit of a loner and I spend a lot of time with my pets. They're my constant companions, and when one passes away, the whole family is sad.

I know he is not suffering anymore, and this comforts me a bit.

Sorry Ellie. It hurts because you care.Nothing wrong with that.Think of what a miserable life, and death,he would have had if you had not rescued him,and be proud that you did.

It is a question we all ask.Why do our pets have to die so soon, and only live a short time? .It is ,i believe ,so that we can give a life to so many throughout OUR lifetime.

In a while you will remember only the happy times.I have gone through it twice with my beloved dogs and it hurts like hell at the time but now i look back with fond memories, and have a wonderful photo frame with them in that i can look at every day.

    I love guinea pigs.....

Try and read the excellent book " The proper care of Guinea Pigs " by Peter Gurney.....l have followed his excellent advice many times, and saved a pig in the process.

One of our adorable piggies passed away last night-she'd had a stroke in the afternoon, and slipped away as my daughter was cuddling her. Great way to go for her, but my daughter's distraught :(
Her companion, Muffin spent a good part of last night running circuits round their indoor cage-it looked like she was looking for Creamcake (can you tell the kids chose their names!)
I've done a bit of reading up and from what I can see, they do seem to thrive better when they're not alone...can anyone advise if it's a good idea to introduce another wee girl to Muffin, and if so, is it better if we do it sooner rather than later? (Muffin's 3.5 if that makes any difference)

I don't want to seem like I'm just looking to replace Creamcake-as we couldn't, but I want what's best for Muffin-can anyone advise?
  • hi,

I've read its saw dust that is a risk to GP respiratory system, I hope so anyway as I bought a massive bag of shavings to keep them going for awhile and save me backing and forthing on foot to the pet shop. In the longterm I am going to buy in Megazorb.

I have only been giving them hay in the hay ball, but adding veggies every other day and filling their bowl with nugget food each day + changing the water bottle every day. Should I change this?

They also seem to be sparring quite a lot at the moment which I am a little worried about as up until yet (they have been together 3 months now and were from the same litter) they have got along fine, they do still snuggle together under the blanket and go to be together when I let them out to play. Can GP's fallout?

    Thanks

    Jen
