I clip my own piggys nails, they can be a little jumpy sometimes so an extra pair of hands is helpful. If you don't fancy doing it yourself a local rescue centre are sure to help and advise.
I've also seen it available at a dog grooming salon £5 a go and the local pet shop offered too when I went in to buy a pair of clippers but it was a small independant one, not sure if P@H could help:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
hi,
Thanks I never thought to ask if the nurse could do it, afterall its not a technical job really!
I actually bought them from P@H so asked in there and they recommended two local vets who I rang ...
I could ask around and see if there's a dog grooming place that would be willing to do it - would they have the know how on GP's tho, I guess I can only ask.

If your piggy has light nails its fairly easy to do yourself. You just want to cut just below the pink bit (there is an excellent diagram on Guinea Pig Lynx website) which you can do with normal nail clippers. You can get someone else to steady the piggy whilst you cut if you are nervous or you can wrap them in a towel. If your piggy has dark nails its a bit harder to see the quick so you will need someone to shine a torch under the nail so you can see it better.0

hi,
Well I rang the vets earlier - £9.71 each!!!! Theyre all done by the vet, they dont offer the nurses service for this. She did say that if they went for something else then the price reduces to £6.71 instead. It seems ridiculous to pay that amount, I can have my own nails manicured for £15 at a salon (which would take 40-60 mins so I can understand the price).
I will look into buying some clippers tommorrow and start preparing myself........

Hello:j
my tree's up and standing in a log stand, pigs have a run about every evening and are absolutely mad for the tree, theyve had a chew on the log stand which is fine but are going nuts for the pine needles, climbing up and everything which Ive never seen them do.
Now, I dont think they're supposed to eat them but can't find a definitive answer. At the moment, I'm giving them a spritz with a water pistol every time they go over there and thats chasing them away, but honestly I've never seen them so excited. Been taking any needles off them mind.0 -
Maybe there's something in the pines (?oil) that has an intoxicating effect on them. Like a good wine maybe......My favourite subliminal message is;0

i think that must be it, i think they've only eaten one or two in the past week as ive kept a close eye, but they're absoultely wild toget more, just spent ten minutes chasing one round who was draggin a small pine branch, then we had a tug of war lol:p:rotfl:0

Your post gave me a good giggle this morning. I haven't got guinea pigs, but I know they love chewing on wood, to keep their teeth down. Toys may distract them from your tree.0

hi,
LOL they sound so full of personality!
I have two piggies and up to yet I have only allowed them the run of the sofa on a blanket but I was hoping to let them have the run of the lounge eventually (I was concerned I would never be able to catch them on my own in such a large space). I am a bit worried about them soiling though, they certainly do enough on the blanket ;( I have laminate flooring so moping shouldnt be too much of a problem but I wondered if there was an easier way/secret which you could let me in on ........ just to save some time/hassle.
Thanks also for the water spray idea! I have tried just removing them from it but that doesnt seem to be effective.
Thanks

With this recent cold snap, please check your piggies and bring them in, I have lost one this week and although he was killed by his Wives I am not convinced that it was a survival of the fittest, my older sow has gone from looking really well and quite plump to I can feel her ribs, while I am fullly prepared that this might be Bubbles last winter if anyone else can bring their piggies in or at least an extra blanket or carpet over their cages, Mine are in the alley by the side of my house but even that is not sheltered enough.
