Have I missed something? Were there more than 2 versions of the layout?
I've been on the old version until today, when the screen suddenly went much brighter and whiter, and the text got bigger.
I assumed this was the "new" version, and went into the control panel to change back to the old, but it didn't change back.
I tried the "new version" and got a completely new layout, obviously the newest version, so is there no way back to the original version?
I've been on this white screen for 10 minutes and my eyes are beginning to ache, and I can't get it to change back

You might need to contact the Forum Team direct, via email.
It seems to me that the buttons that are supposed to enable you to switch between versions don't actually work properly for everyone (though they work well for me). It also seems that some members' settings are being 'altered' without them doing it. From your description of the first change it sounds rather like your 'skin' setting might have been changed.
The Forum Team will have the facilities to overwrite various settings and should be able to get you back to the old 'Green' version.0 -
Good to finally have a mobile site. Niggles though:
Too easy to mistakenly thank a post whilst scrolling
Can't see a post's thank count
Generally too busy and too much space taken up with secondary information that distracts from the main content0 -
Eventually worked out how to go back to the original version. GREAT!!!
but no Martin pic ? appears he does not want to appear on intelligent users site?
Advice to MSE the new site is RUBBISH!!!!The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

go into your user profile,
get up that overblown screen that lists your posts/threads/thanks/etc across the middle of the screen in a font that's much bigger than necessary,
and click on the word 'posts'.
This then gives you the information in a similar format to if you had done a search on yourself.0 -
I can now get to my posts list but when I click on these I get thrown to the beginning of the thread. In the old forum I was able to click on my own name (green link near top left) and select my recent posts list, and clicking on one of these took me right back to the post, allowing me to continue reading the thread from that point. Is it possible to do the same thing in the new layout or am I just being thick?
No, but I think the designer(s) of the new layout were.
Or maybe they simply don't understand how proper forums work.
I can't see any way in the new layout to do this useful thing that we can do in the old layout.
One of the (many) reasons why I spend the vast majority of my MSE forum time in the old version.0 -

OK my non-kneejerk reaction.
I have been around these forums for many years as you can see. I also as part of my "day job" use many forums and indeed have run a couple for business purposes.
I tried the new design for a few days but really couldn't get on with it. I fully understand the need for a revamp - the original design is old fashioned and not great to navigate. However I couldn't wait to get back to it. Sorry but it's a "fail" from me.
I imagine only people feeling strongly, or forum old hands, would find their way here to comment so that would bias any feedback, but > 95% hate it? I hope MSE are taking note of that and the comments from experienced internetters....0 -
This new layout is awful. Have tried it several times and it gives me a headache due to the colours used.
Frankly I won't be using the site much at all now. A pity because the information provided is really good, but I just can't be bothered to use something that is badly designed and poorly laid out.0 -
Well I did my best to try out the new layout but unless they sort out a way to get you back to your last post in a thread
The really daft thing is that it should have been easy to have included it in the new version in the same way as it is in the old.
(And presumably would be easy to include now.)
It almost looks as though they simply 'forgot' to include it.0
