Ugh poor DS chicken pox is horrendous. He has spots on his spots
He keeps rushing off to the mirror to "look at my spots" and then wails in distress. Anyway we went out to the park as planed with some friends which was good, took his mind off it, but I felt dreadfully guilty for the other parents and kidsthere. When we met his friend, DS held out his hand for his friend to stop and shouted "NO! Dont come any closer! You might catch chicken pox". I was mortified, I am sure I got a load of disapporving looks. Anyway the rest of the kids went in the big paddling swimming pool but I kept my two out, they weren't too upset though.
I've plonked them ion front of a Fifi DVD just now so I can sit down with a cuppa and some cake

Thanks for all the good news messages about my Dad. I really feel like a weight has been lifted. On Sunday night Mum told me he'd had to have several units of blood as his blood levels were low
and at the point I just thought "for gods sake what else can go wrong with him". His lungs are collapsed cos they were leaking , infected (at one point they thought it was TB), inflamed, he is on antibiotics and steroids, the steroids have caused his legs and ankles to swell away up so he's on water pills, he has had 7 chest drains in to drain out the air and fluid that leaked out of his lungs, these and the general illness have made him unable to walk so he's chair/bed bound and has bedsores, and is on warfarin or something to prevent blood clots, the steroids have caused his blood sugar to rocket so he's on insulin, he's been on oxygen via full face mask for 10 weeks with a nebuliser 4 times a day. He's got constipated so is on lactulose, he's on painkillers for the chest drains which hurt him, he is quite panicky on and off as his breathing had been so laboured so he's on diazepam to calm him down, and he has always suffered from cluster headaches on and off which have returned due to the stress so he's on stuff called ametryptaline for that as well. We recon he's had over 60 chest crays, they do them most days with a portable xray machine that they bring to his bed. And about 8 CT scans. He is certainly getting his money back from the NHS!!! Seriously though its been absolutely awful. He was a very heavy smoker for 50 years but stopped 4 years ago when he was diagnosed with emphysema. Apparently the collapsed lungs are not caused by the smoking but the emphysema has certainly impeded his recovery.
So anyway well done if you read all that! Sorry had to get it off my chest (no pun intended). The fact then that she called last night with such good news is just brilliant :j The week before he was admitted he was playing golf 3 times a week and doing things like painting the guttering of the house, not one to sit around. He went in the day before his 70th birthday, how awful is that. I feel quite gutted as well that I can't really go over and see him now until about Christmas realistically, what with the baby due in 6 weeks, by the time he gets out I wouldn't be able to fly anyway.
But enough waffle, I am just sooooo pleased that there is real light at the end of the tunnel :j :j :jJan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

LJD1 have you tried hair braiding with you daughter? When my sister and I were that age, we spent a whole summer doing these for each other. You just need to plait a small section of her hair, and choose some silk threads or something similar to wrap around. You could buy them together and she could choose her favourite colours.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

thanks also for all the chicken pox advice. We're giving him calpol and nurofen (alternately) and piriton, and have calamine in the cream form (not lotion) for the spots. He skipped the bath last night but we are planning an early one tonight and will put loads of bicarb in it. Will it dry them up any faster or just relieve the itch ?
lil_me, I haven;t had my immunity tested, no. I had it when I was about 7 I think. I did ask the pharmacist when DD had it the other week there on hols, and she said I should be ok but it could cause shingles if immune system low (does pregnancy = lower immune system ??) and that even if I got shingles it wouldn;t matter. It would just be a bit or misery for me because whatever they give you for shingles you can;t have when pregnant. She advised that I avoid DD. Yeah right. She is 2 for gods sake and ill, all she wants is her Mummy. How can I avoid her ??
Same with DS. I couldnt avoid him anyway even if I wanted to (and I do sometimes LOL). I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow so I wil ask ther anyway. Have had to arrange someone to look after him for that as I can't take him with me.
I'm in a mini huff with hubby, he works for himself there are 3 of them and the other 2 are on holidays this week. He has a colleague from Germany over all week and is taking her out to for food tonight because "I can't just leave her to eat in her hotel all week" - no but you can leave me at 34 weeks to put 2 wee'uns one of which is miserable with chicken pox to bed all week. Grr. I know he is doing the right thing but I am sooo tired by their bedtime. And its nothing to do with the fact its a girl inc ase anyone;s wondering I'd be equally huffy if it was a bloke (more probably as then there would be beer involved too LOL)
gosh I am a moan today.
Right going to get washing in and hang other out for couple of hours, sort shoes etc quickly in hall, dust hall while duster is to hand, then hoover front room inc sofas and behind sofas (yuck).

JillD the bicarb/oats (in a bag under running water.. I missed that bit lol.. could just see him sitting there like in a bath of scabs lol) sooth the itching and promote healing rather than drying.
Vitamin E cream is meant to be fab for reducing the scarring too.. anything is worth a try!!
The ones with the most spots are usually less 'ill' with chickenpox.. like the virus makes them spotty rather than feel naff.. if that makes either of you feel better? One of mine had bout 5 spots and was REALLY ill, yet the others had millions of spots and hopped about like normal.. not sure which was worse.
I'd also be MORE annoyed if hubby were taking a man out for dinner that's a sure sign he'd come home disgustingly late in a revolting drunken state and be no use tomorrow as well.. I'd probably have told him to bring her home for dinner though and cooked myself.. well.. not literally, I doubt I'd be too delicious! lol
I've read a book.. and been invited out for dinner with my mother and uncle and I'm wondering why.. I'm not normally invited so think there is something REALLY suspicious going on.. we shall see.. gammon almost cooked.. I did notice about 4 hours ago some little treasure had unplugged the SC so I had to set it to go again.. thankfully it was still piping hot so it can't have been off long.
I have 3 watchers already on my latest ebay fling.
I've set up a spreadsheet with my sisters ebay sales on it.. so if she doesn't believe me when I give her the proceeds of her sales I have proof...
Suppose I should do something productive.. maybe have a shower actually while the chimps watch Mulan 2LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Well, I did magane to mop the downstairs floors after all, and tidied the back window sil. (sort of)
Did my dailies.. was just putting away the bucket when I heard two dauthers up the stairs fighting. DD3 (aged 9) was screaming her head off, so I dropped everything, and bolted up the stairs so see what was going on.
Just as she was telling me about how her big sister kept coming into her room after they'd had a tiff about what game to play (if you don't play what I want to play you can't come into my room anymore... well then YOU can't come into MINE.. EVER!!) I realised that the little squirt had caught the downstairs door before it fell shut and she was on her way up the stairs. She has these little wooden shoes she likes to walk around in, and when she was halfway up (I was at the top) she slipped and I watched in absolute terror as she fell backwards and tumbled all the way down.. a wooden shoe following her down, and hitting her smack in the face as she landed!!!
My heart was in my throat I'll tell you!!
She seems fine, apart from a black eye where the wooden shoe hit her.
I went off on the two big ones of course (after lots of cuddling the little one) and how their stupid bickering over nothing caused me to have to pelt upstairs without having time to check if the wee one was safe!..
They are both in their (seperate) bedrooms now...
it drives me NUTS! They pestered eachother when they shared a room... couldn't get away from eachother fast enough, and now !!????? AARRGGGG!!!!
Pfffff
oh well... I'll try and calm down now.. *looking for rubber bands*
DH and I also put the new doghouse together so husky puppy can sleep outside at night.

LJD1.. I was going to suggest hair braiding too.. Are her toenails affected too or can those be painted? Maybe adding jewels to items of clothing, to make them personal and twinkly? Card making.. could prepare a stash of christmas and birthday cards?? Would she learn to do something like knitting, sewing, cross-stitch?? she could make nice things for her room. Glad to hear you got somewhere with the GP though.. mines like a chocolate teapot!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Can I clarify??.. these rubber bands.. they are to fire at moving children like missiles aren't they??
'you little' *twang*
'stop that you big' *twang*
Oh yes.. I'm almost tempted!!
Becca.. I'd have lynched them both.. sounds like they need to both be given a lovely task to make their sister feel better and redeem themselves once they are allowed out of their rooms.. what is left on your list? JillD: you have every right to be a moan!!
Pregnant, two other wee ones, having to do it all by yourself all week...
Moan away sister!
I wish you luck and strength.
It's a pity it's summer really. When my olders were wee and couldn't tell time yet and I was on my own with them it was winter time.. and when I'd get really tired, I'd feed them early and put the to bed... (sometimes VERY early!) by saying: "look! it's SO dark outside! It's really really late!!"
Then they learned to read clocks and it was over and done with! :rotfl:0
