Went school uniform shopping today. Been too traumatised by what it cost me to do anything else!!

Once I have finished my shopping I'll tot up how much it all cost and you will feel SO much better about yours!!!

    2005 I spent £1100 (5 children)
    2006 I spent.. £1500 (6 children)
This year I have 7 to buy uniform for.. 3 at high school and 4 at primary.
DS1's blazer is £120 his hat is £55, DS2 pure-wool-take-days-to-dry-sweaters are £30 (needs 3 at least), DD1's polo shirts are £15 each (needs 3 at least).. then there are 7 school bags, 8 pairs of shoes, 6 pairs of trainers, 2 pairs of plimsolls/doodles (they can only wear the expensive ones) 2 pairs football boots.. 3 pairs tap shoes, 3 pairs ballet shoes, 3 dance bags and all 8 need new coats.... I don't even want to think about it!!!! Especially when I am being nagged to book a weeks holiday which will come to about £1000 with spending money and travel etc.. I really can't handle this I don't think!! Where do they think all this money comes from??

LJD1.. Oh yes indeed it is VERY important to have pretty nails when you are 8.. Mine are still pretty and I am a fair few years older than 8. The best thing with nails is they grow so quickly!! My 2 year old just lost her thumb nail.. it was trapped a while back and was just starting to come off and she pulled it right off with her teeth, silly baby.. cue blood and screaming.. but it has grown really quickly and is almost normal length again after just a month but it is still lumpy but good enough to paint!! Tell her it won't be long before they are long and beautiful again!! Bless her!

Serena some of the plots here have been abandonned by their owners because they are STLL under water 6 weeks after the floods.. they are like paddy fields.. including the one owned by the school which is really sad as the children put in so much work over the first 6 months digging and weeding and this is the first year they've had the plot so were hoping for great things. Hopefully next year will be better for everyone!

  • AnW's mum and Meramid - good to hear you and your family's enjoyed your hols.
LJD- hope you get something sorted for your DD today
Jill- great news about your dad's health improvement

I have dusted and tidied the lounge this morning.
Will fling the hoover round and sort the furniture out later. DS and DH are just sitting down to play on the PS1.

An activity at the library later is all we have planned for today.

  • Hi all,

Not a good start to the day - stupid, ignorant neighbours in flat above us decided to wake DS up at 2.45am by sitting in room above him, laughing excessively loudly and jumping about on their floor  I really do feel today that 18 year old kids should not be allowed to rent their own property, esp. not above a young child - it's happened 4 nights in a row....

We had DS in our bed for a while but TBH it was just as loud in our room so he had no chance of getting back off to sleep - he's just fallen asleep on the sofa in front room so have no chance of doing any cleaning til he wakes up

Oh, and the terrible start didn't end there! STILL no post, therefore STILL no pin no for credit card - have about £10 to last til Sat unless that comes through... stupid Royal Mail  Also, cats have made themselves ill by eating some pork scratchings that OH accidentally left out last night - had to get up this am to clean cat sick off the floor (gross I know, just needed to vent lol).

Anyways, am aiming for L1 and L2 when DS wakes up - will go and sort kitchen in meantime - am making cheese and onion pie for tea - anyone got any good recipes? (preferably foolproof ones given the start I have had to the day :rotfl: )

Thanks and will check back later,

    Sarah xx

    Morning all

Shirleypark, well done on the house news
LJD1, hope you get your GP sorted out
JillD - when mine had chicken pox (many many years ago admittedly) I used antihistamines which helped with the itching. The doctor prescribed them, but I had to ask. You might be able to get advice from the chemist. Calamine lotion is good while you're putting it on but the effect doesn't seem to last long.

    Anyway,

Living room dusted and vacuumed, likewise hallway and stairs. Kitchen S & Sd and vacuumed. Shopping due between now and 12.

One load of washing on line, nearly dry. Showers forecast but sunny and hot so far. *watches sky*

For chickenpox.. bathing with a cup full of oats or a couple of spoonfuls of bicarb in the bath (the chunky porridge oats are fine but not ready brek!) Works for most itchy skin conditions! Calamine lotion actually makes the itching worse as it dries the spots out way too quickly!! We used.. piriton and medised as advised by the GP.. ;)

    Morning all

Just sat here with a cup of coffee in my PJ's waiting for the scan to complete and the kids to wake up.

lil_me my sis was going to keep an eye on ebay for me whilst we were away but when I realised how long it would take her to do I realised it was too much to ask hence the vacation settings. Last year when OH died I put up a message about close family bereavement and there were no hassles at all. Ah well better get packing and posting!

You lot have been so busy and that's from just this weeks thread! Hugs to those that need them. I shan't be keeping to the list this week (but then do I ever!!!) my aim is to get all the hol stuff sorted and put away, washing just about all done so am feeling pretty pleased about that.

As to the nappy boxes we have several in the loft as well lol I forget who is due to have a baby (blame the jetlag) get boots/asda/Mr T to deliver the nappies for you. I did that before DS was born and when he was tiny, made life so much easier as they weight a flippin ton and at 9lb I think we only used one smaller pack of newborn nappies. DD was 9lb 6oz when she was born so neither of mine were small babies.

    Hello all!

I'm just needing a sit down!!
UGH!! my back is killing me!

I am cleaning the living room, and for the first time in ages I moved the couch to clean behind/under it. And now I remember why I don't do it very often!! That thing is made of lead I swear!!

And again I am embarressed by what I found... YUCK!! lots of sweety papers stuffed behind it.. lots of dirt, dust, dog hair, sticky stuff... ieuw...

But shoving it back into place was a bit too much for my back I think.. ouch..

But did manage to finish hoovering and mopping the rest of the floor.
Windowsil at the front is clear and clean. the one at the back is a major hotspot as the kids dump all their crap on there. I tell them to tidy something up, they dump it on the window sil..

It's a rainy day here in Holland.. so time to clean! We've been out a lot because of the summer holliday so haven't done much flying so far.
But the living room is now starting to look good again.
I'm just going to have me a nice cup of coffee and give my back a rest.. and then get back to it!

Did post already but charlie hit the keyboard as i went to post and i lost it.

Anyway, the gist was, i'm finding it hard to get on today cos Charlie is wedged to my leg, but i managed to pack one bag already for going tomorrow, and sort the cats out, and get charlie ready and fed. My friend also popped in unexpected and i wasn't embarassed to let her in, and she said she might pop back later with her little one as she has some stuff for me about nursery vouchers. Thankfully someone else knows all this stuff and i don't have to find it all out for myself.

I have a big long list of things to do before going away, so i had best try to remember what i had wrote down earlier. :
    • [strike]make butternut squash and lentil soup for dinner[/strike]
    • [strike]wash a load of my dark stuff[/strike]
    • [strike]wash the shower curtain (have had to take down as charlie swung on it and broke the rail)[/strike] now going to be stored in the garage
    • [strike]deal with post[/strike]
    • [strike]sterilise and make up bottles[/strike]
    • pack other bag for going away
    • remember to pack DH's parents house keys, and [strike]theatre tickets [/strike]for Saturday night (going to see Lord of The Rings)
    • iron rest of my stuff for going away, and DH's shirt
    • [strike]wash my black top for going out on Saturday[/strike]
    • disinfect Charlie's bath toys - getting a bit gunky
    • [strike]get out cat boxes from garage for taking cats to cattery tomorrow am[/strike]
    • [strike]find out cat vaccination certificates as above[/strike]
    • [strike]sort out cat food to send with them[/strike]
    • [strike]wash the cover off Charlie's bouncy chair, and also his sun hat[/strike]
    • [strike]get out travel cot, mattress and sheets[/strike]
    • [strike]cancel all my stuff for sale on amazon[/strike]
    • watch rental DVD
    • [strike]get info about salary sacrifice from friend[/strike]
    • [strike]email head of department about performance management[/strike]
    • [strike]put cat food and certificates in my car for morning[/strike]
    • dismantle baby bouncer to take with us
    • hoovered porch, hall, and stairs - removed all the dust webs
    tomorrow:
    • empty bathroom bin, kitchen bin, and put compost out
    • drop cats off at cattery
    • pop to Morrison's and get a few bits for Charlie to take with us
    • sterilise and make up baby bottles
    • pack up last few bits of toiletries/bath mats/bath toys/everyday toys/steriliser/baby food/baby milk
    • wash a load of baby bibs loaded in WM ready to go
    • wash my 2 pairs of jeans, TD and pack
    • post back rental DVD
    • get some cash out
    • hoover landing/bathroom/our room/charlie's room
    • hoover livingroom/dining room/kitchen again
    • make an appointment to open Charlie's a child trust fund
    • send off for salary sacrifice stuff
    • transmit shop and scan data
    • make chicken in white sauce with pasta for tea before we go
    • clean up kitchen
plus anything else i think of to add to this later, seems though it is just little old me and no DH to help this evening.

best go as i am simultaneously trying to talk to my sister on the phone and not doing either very well
