DS3 is watching that awful program with Upsey Daisy and the Ninky Nonk - I bet the creators were on some strong stuff when they created that. In protest I was walking round the house only saying upsey daisy and nothing else - oh good they have just said go to sleep ponky pines! The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

I love rats! Except Mad-Alfie, a rat who was left in a box in the place I used to work for, well we don't know, must have been a few days. Anyway, he was evil, not that I blame him. Tired to feed him peanuts but he was just mental! He went to a new home (free of charge) with a guy who didn't mind the bites (this rat was fully grown) after a few weeks he said he had calmed down and would tolerate coming out the cage for some attention, would climb up his arm etc. He just refused to be picked up, but would come over. Must have been treated horrid before!
I remember cleaning out his cage in the shop when I was pregnant, he flew at me as soon as I open the door! I screamed and threw a bucket over him! Left it to someone else to get him back in the cage as I couldn't risk getting a bite with me being pregnant and such...
Your two look like total babes though!
My girls are total darlings, the only thing they are likely to do is to lick you to death. They went through a stage for a couple of weeks of biting toes though.
My rescue boys on the other hand were a nightmare when I got them. They obviously hadn't been handled, the guy they came from said that he took their tunnel away because they spent all day asleep in it, erm.... that's what boys do, they are lazy. I lost count of the number of times I was bitten by them, in the end I took to wearing my gardening gloves to handle them. I've had them about 5 weeks now and they are taming up nicely, you can now pick them up out of the cage, and today they licked icecream off my fingerI named one of the boys Nicholas Monster Rat because he was such a monster.

That was one of the things I hated about working in a pet shop, ignorant people who assumed that hamsters, rats etc should be awake and ready to play when they felt like playing with them for a bit. And the people who thought they came already tamed and trained....
Have you tried them with a pair of old jeans yet? Makes a great hammock/tunnel/bed/chew toy.0 -
Had a bit of a lazy day on the flying front today. Only did Level 1, but also managed to clean the window inside and out in the living room, as well as the windowsill, which had mould on it:o and had another go at polishing the brass letterbox on the frontdoor - it's taking quite a while as it has years worth of tarnish on it, so I give up after 30 minutes rubbing with brasso (2 weeks on, I can see my face in most of it though - it's just the flap part that is taking time). Also cleaned the glass in the front door, and have just persuaded OH to empty the Dyson for me as it was well and truly full, so hopefully, it will suck better now - we need a new hoover really as this one makes a horrible noise when you use it now, and we can't work out why - it's one of the original Dysons though so it has probably just come to the end of its life.
Hope my flying improves tomorrow, as I think it is forecast to rain - just need to stay away from this forum a bit more and stop refreshing my usercp.
Hope everyone has had a good day - I don't have children yet, but have just qualified as a primary school teacher (received my certificate yesterday), so I know what they can be like.
Happy flying,

Latecomer reporting for duty!
Sounds like the school hols are taking their toll in some households and the sales of elastic bands are rocketing! I hope every one is ok. As usual arriving late means loads of posts to read and short on memory at this time in the evening so hugs and hurrahs and phews where appropriate.
Had a crackers day today and am thoroughly beat. Got 6 of us Flying though which is my new record! Our regular work has been halted - a knock on effect from the ban on livestock movement at the moment - and we're having to find things to do otherwise. You can't go wrong with a blummin' good clean and clearout I think.
I may have an hours worth of energy left to do the list and make something to eat.

So far I've turned several pairs of old jeans, combats, old tshirts, old pair of pyjama bottoms into hammocks. They chew through them so quickly that I refuse to buy them hammocks, just attach squares of fabric to the cage with cable ties. Likewise I don't buy them that many toys either, they have to make do with things like empty toilet rolls and cardboard boxes, because they chew everything, plus it's a good excuse to buy things like pringles so the rats can have the empty tube :rolleyes:Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR0 -
pen-pen - nightmare, didnt even think I could recatch it  oh well just have to keep fingers crossed ....
tiamai_d - er why did teething gel help with their wotsits ?? Am I mising something ? DS has them on his willy too. Been going around all day clutching himself in agony, poor soul. Won't let me near it.
nicki - LOL at the drawing round spots, he;d be there til kingdom come ther are flipping millions of them, he is going to be one giant scab in a few days
dustykitten - I know what you mean about that programme. I sit at the tea table saying "Macca Pacca! Macca Pacca" and DD (2) looks at me in disgust and says "you're not Macca Pacca, you're Mummy" :rotfl: . It is intensely annoying and yet they are hooked ......
Anyhow, I gave DS a bicarb bath and poor soul he just lay in it as much as
he could for about half an hour, didn't play with any toys or anything, then he had a bit of toast and went to bed. He is so uncomfortable. He shared room with DD on hols when she had it so I don;t know if prolonged exposure has made him had it worse ? Thank god it will be mostly cleared up0 befiore hubby goes away on Sunday.
I ended up ringing hubby at work at 6pm (he was meant to be taking a colleague out for food tonight) and saying basically our need at home was greater than his colleague's and could he please get home to help, which he did, thankfully. I had lots of bits I wanted to get done tonight but I am totally shattered so I think I will just veg and surf and leave the rest for another day. There is half a little chocloate cake in the cupboard with my name on it so I shall look forward to that laterJan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

JillD the pharmasist told me to put some teething gel oh his 'wotsit' to numb it. Helped for a bit, but little one was really bad as he is still in nappies, so he gave me instilligel, its a gel they use to numb the penis before they insert a catheter. If he is really bad you may as well try it, anything for some relief eh?0

:grouphug: for those with poorly children and children who are trying their patience.
Went to the library this afternoon and DS made a very attarctive windchime out of a clay pot, a CD and bottle tops, beads and all manner of clinking clanking things.
Then we did a quick look in a couple of the charity shops and bought Downfall for £1.99 and I now have a new M&S top for £1 off the bargain rail.
Also went to the shoe shop, had DS's feet measured and bought his school shoes, so another thing done to get his uniform ready for September.
On the way home we heard thunder and then a few mins later the heavens opened and we got soaked through to the skin. I was only wearing a thin blouse and ended up looking like I was in a wet t-shirt competition!:rotfl:
We tried sheltering at a bus stop for a while, but it was just didn't seem to be easing off. As we started to hurry DS's trousers began to fall down! They ended up around his knees at one point. We were in hysterics trying to pull them up and get back home as quickly as we could. Goodness what the pair of us looked like, but we had a laugh! :rotfl:...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.
