I remember liking Angel Delight years ago and we had some recently as it's the sort of thing DH hankers after on occasion, anyway, I didn't enjoy it at all, it tasted really artificial, I'd rather have fresh fruit.

No idea of how many syns it would be and IMO not worth any!

    LL :)

I remember a WAG on Come Dine with Me serving it up an calling it Delices des Anges and also having to smile and eat it when an ex took me home for tea with his family. It's actually fairly high syn (11-14) but that's for a whole pack lush. 2 pounds isn't bad after you were led astray over the weekend. I'd stick to salad with your fish as there's no Speed food otherwise.

lois, I think most people say that the ready meals would stretch to two people if you add veg so maybe OK as a standby for later in the season.

Although I've done Scottish dancing since I was a child I've only been to Scotland once (Edinburgh). There's a great dance called Farewell to Auchterarder.:)

Morning all, been an eventful few days this end. Was going to Glasgow to meet a friend yesterday so nipped in to New Look for something new to wear on Tuesday. I never buy new clothes because just find it really stressful and upsetting but am now at the stage where I have about 3 outfit options. I did eventually get something but NONE of their jeans fitted me (usually a staple of my wardrobe) and everything else in a 16 looked horrendous. There were a few tears in the changing room and it was pretty low moment but the only way is up from here! I bought myself a couple of things to "aim towards" as well.

Obviously you have to buy something to see you through until you're at target but get an absolute minimum. Shops like New Look use minimum fabric to keep prices low so don't be disheartened. I find Sainsbury's jeans are OK until you feel like splashing out. I bought lots of things from charity shops too and it helped me experiment with colours.

wiz, what you're having fits in fine with the plan either as HEBs or syns. And it's important that you find it sustainable. If it would make you miserable to not have the carb snacks then you must just plod on. Even worse would be to cut them out and aggravate your diabetes.

I've had a sort out of my freezers this morning. Pleased to say that there's very little in there not SW friendly, just a couple of Indian/Chinese ready meals that I'd only have on Saturdays as a treat so no worries there.

    EE plan:
B: NAS Ribena, HEB bread, kippers, HEA milk
    L: ???
D: savoury mince, mash, cabbage, carrots
    Syns: scrape of spread

I'm not feeling hungry for lunch at the moment but will report back if I have anything.

    Help please

I am planning to make "Chinese five-spice duck and cabbage stir-fry" - SW - A Taste of Asia - Page 91
Now I need something called "Chinese Cabbage (Chinese Leaves)"

Apparently the cabbage looks like this, but I cannot find it in the UK.
    nappacabbage.jpg
Does anyone know a suitable alternative for this cabbage, or where I can get the closest one to the taste I need?

    More Info
napa cabbage = nappa cabbage = celery cabbage = Chinese celery cabbage = Peking cabbage = Chinese cabbage = wong bok = petsai = shantung cabbage = hakusai = Chinese leaf (leaves) = michihli Notes: Like bok choy, napa cabbage is a common ingredient in Asian stir-fries. It can also be used as a milder and more delicate alternative to green cabbage in slaws and other recipes. Substitutes: bok choy OR cabbage (stronger flavor, takes longer to cook) OR savoy cabbage (stronger flavor, takes longer to cook)

    Thank you

Thank you for your help, so... the Chinese Lettuce is really the Chinese Cabbage

Glad you cleared that one up.
Looks like the supermarkets are mixing things up for us all.

Much appreciated, at least you can see where the confusion was

I think the recipes this month all looked really nice - how did you find the meditteranean chicken the other night?

We had a lasagne last night, never thought to make it into the canneloni that you made:doh:

The Mediterrean chicken was quite tasty but a bit too tomatoey - which I think a lot of SW recipes tend to be! I only made a half recipe as only the 2 of us and it made enough for a lunch for both myself and DH! DH took his today with some LO rice from last night. I forgot it was in the fridge so I'll have mine tomorrow and will have it with some couscous; although there's no chicken left in it so it's just veg and beans but that's OK cos I'm having another Green day!

Will definitely make again some time.

The cannelloni was really nice as well even though it was quark, whisking it seemed to make it work better somehow!

This is another one to do again.

Looks like another great weight loss week candyapple you are not far off your goal now. What's your secret?
You had some mega losses over the weeks :)

I wish I knew! I reckon it's all water weight coming off. Before giving SW a go my diet was truly awful, would maybe have had veg twice a week at the most. It was all pizzas and ready meals yuck. I'm truly astonished at how much weight is coming off as I was so sceptical at the beginning. I reckon it's all down to the speed food though and cutting out all the biccies and rubbishy sugar stuff that I used to eat. Mr Candy has done even better he's now lost 1st 4lbs but he's exercising a lot more than I am. In total though I said at the beginning I'd like to lose 3 stones in total, so I'm well on the way.

I still love Angel delight

Another angel delight fan here although I could never get it to mix right, either end up with mouthful of powder or loads of milk at the bottom. I've not had angel delights since starting SW but my fave was always the choc one with chopped banana in yum!

Well done denise on your loss :T

    i wrote a nice post...and lost it. typical :(

I was going to say if you have any problems finding Chinese cabbage I've seen spring greens available in most supermarkets here already (april is the start of their season) and we use them all the time in stir-fry :)

I want to find quite a mild stir fry 'sauce' recipe. bf is adamant the take away ones/chow mein can't have the usual suspects of ingredients in - garlic, ginger, soy etc... I wish he wasn't such a stubborn fool! hehe

had a lovely walk in the sun earlier to get bread, milk and cheese. I buy great white now as even though I don't often have bread now I like the option to be there for my HeB and it really like a treat as it's so fluffy and white haha (sad I know!)

The price of food/milk is frustrating me again. I know it shouldn't as its just a fact of like but...grrr. we never finish a full 4pint bottle of milk before it goes off and wonder bairn has blue top whilst we have green...2pints 89p...4pts £1 silly that there is such a small difference for a whole lt and I don't like paying the crazy prices the 'last longer' stuff can be round here. I've bought a 2pt of each this time and think I may keep these bottles then buy 4pts next time...decant 2 in to each of the small bottles then keep the rest in the fridge. hopefully less waste that way and the 2pt bottles shouldn't take up too much room in the freezer.

I'm trying to think of 'summer' meals for warmer days and struggling. we must usually live on salad when it's hot! Not ideal for wonder bairn though so I will make more effort this year to add in some variety...hopefully bf will eventually give in and start to try new things

Well done denise on your loss :T
    Yay!!!!:j

Yes, well done denise. Amazing what a bit of reining in can do.:) I didn't trust WI today, giving myself another week. I feel that I'm still in target, just want to give my body a few more days to get back to normal.

Decided on lentil & veg soup for lunch. Dinner plans are slightly tweaked to a cottage pie instead of mince and mash separately. I'll probably put a bit of grated cheese on top but count in HEA.

Saw in magazine says that there's a Total 0% Crème Fraiche at 0.5 syns per tablespoon. Then I looked at syns online and Asda ( ;)) GFY low fat is the same. That means I can make much lower syn dauphinoise potatoes especially if I count cheese as HEA.

Good idea about keeping the 2pt bottles lush. I know what you mean about paying extra for small sizes though. I buy 2 x 4 pts a week for the two of us and make sure it has a decent date on it. DH has cereal most mornings though and me about twice a week. All the rest goes into teas and occasional cheese sauce.

Overall I keep costs down (because I can't stand being ripped off by greedy SMs) by shopping at Aldi and then odd bits from other shops (Farmfoods, £shop, HB & other SMs) when I'm passing. The other shops are just for real bargains, YS or something I can't get elsewhere. I try to shop just once a week unless I'm passing somewhere and see a really good reduction.

Not quite sure what you mean about the stir fry sauce. Does BF like or not like those ingredients? Or do you mean he eats them in take-aways but is in denial? You could just stir fry veg and put a shake of 5 spice and some soy on at last minute. I often use a bit of lazy garlic but perhaps garlic salt would be more 'invisible'.;)

Strangely enough I like salads in restaurants but rarely bother at home as I find it fiddly and often waste leaves. I buy tomatoes, peppers and spring onions regularly but tend to cook with them instead. What about making some SW burgers for the freezer when you've time for batch cooking? Or a tray bake of Mediterranean veg is easy with chicken or even sausages. Perhaps start serving a JP and salad alongside your usual fish and meat instead of hotter veg. I think new potatoes make a meal lighter and any LO are great for frying.
