Good morning - I'd love to join you if you'll have me?

I have three stone to lose after embarking on an ill-fated change of career to teaching two years ago. Any teachers on here will understand why I began to comfort-eat!! I've now left that all behind me and start a new (normal!) office job on 1st Sept - so I'll once again have the time and energy to be able to plan my meals, instead of a Nutella sandwich here and a Pot Noodle there, supplemented by copious amounts of chocolate and crisps.

I've successfully lost (less) weight in the past by counting calories, but that doesn't seem to be working for me now - perhaps because I'm a bit older and my metabolism isn't what it used to be (sob) or perhaps because I now run a lot and am always hungry - I do only eat back the calories that I've burnt, but ...?

Anyway, I know a few people who swear by SW so I've decided to read up on it (it always seems a bit complicated and faddy to me as an outsider) and bite the bullet. I've signed up as an online member and am looking forward to getting started.

Sorry for the ramble, but that's me in a nutshell :)

I noticed some of you use hairy biker recipes, are they from their diet books? How do you rate them, I may need to get one as I enjoy their cooking although the books I have are their curry and pie books which aren't exactly compatible!

I've got the Hairy Dieters cookbook and regularly use a couple of recipes from it - lamb tagine and fish pie - but I searched for the braised steak recipe and it's on the BBC food website.

Morning all, going to have a go at HB braised beef (using medallions). I don't have a flame proof casserole dish so the last bit about thickening the gravy! Would it work just left in the oven to thicken or do I ladle some out and thicken in a pan? So looking forward to this as everyone raves about it, don't want to mess it up at the end though :p
    Thanks in advance :A

Welcome in, pull up a chair and join the mad house :D
I'm a TA so totally know where you're coming from, so many people either talking about or actually leaving the profession around me lately. So stressful with not a lot of thanks from the powers that be. I've had a very stressful time recently and am also thinking of looking elsewhere. Somewhere where I'm not hit, kicked, bitten and had things thrown at me on a weekly if not daily basis. B&Q sounds nice at the moment :rotfl:
Popping in to school tomorrow to catch up on photocopying, laminating and the like (don't see why I should use my own) as the day after kids broke up should have been my time to do said resources but got pulled into meeting instead so wasted a whole day .
Sorry gone off on one again :rotfl:

I think I’m beginning to regain my sanity! I had W8.1 for 2 days. I’ve had W10 for half an hour and already I feel calmer and more organised. Fingers crossed I stay that way! Getting to grips with the keyboard too!

Come on in and have a SW friendly treat with your cuppa, Tete en l’Air.

    Good for you, wizkid.

Yesterday the only syns I had were the 8 planned for breakfast. I forgot to take my wine gums to the match and wasn’t tempted to buy anything instead! (We won, btw.) We were later getting home and DH wanted take away so I agreed as long as it wasn’t from chip shop. I thought he’d bring a curry which we usually share, but he brought me a chicken tikka kebab with salad, chilli sauce and tortillas. Well I didn’t have the tortillas and only about a tsp of the sauce. There was no dressing on the salad and I think the chicken only had seasoning on, so if there were syns it would have been minimal. The tortillas are still in their bag! And I didn’t have any supper! Maybe this hypnotherapy is working.

    Breakfast: muesli & melon
Lunch: roast beef & piccalilli salad sandwich (9 syns), Shape 0% fat yogurt
Dinner: spag bol planned for yesterday, Parmesan (1 ½ syns), hexa milk
Snacks hexb toast, WW carrot cake (4 syns)

    Good luck everyone.

Welcome tete and I can empathise with the reasons for your weight gain. SW really isn't faddy it's a healthy eating programme rather than a diet. It's a common sense approach based on eating lots of healthy food like lean meat/fish, carbs cooked without hidden naughties (like cream and fat), and loads and loads of veg!! Then, a set daily amount (Healthy Extras) of wholemeal bread/cereal for fibre and dairy for calcium and then limited treats (syns). Take a look at the sample 7 day menu on the website to get you started and just ask as many questions as you like.

tie, I made HB steak with medallions from Aldi last week and it was great. What I'd do is tip the lot into a big saucepan or wok at the end and thicken it off on the hob. It may work in the oven but I've never tried it. Unlike other casseroles I always plate the meat up in the kitchen with the onions and mushrooms on top and then put the remaining gravy in a sauce boat for the table.

I saw your win greentiger . Do you get to most away games? We're playing this afternoon but on the radio so no Crunchie;). Still looking for a win and big clubs still unsettling our players:(.

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS Grapefruit, HEB porage, HEA milk
L: probably JP with cottage cheese & beetroot
D: roast chicken, roast potatoes and parsnips, runner beans, carrots, cauli & broccoli
Syns: squirt of syrup, gravy, maybe some stuffing, wine syns;)

    Afternoon all..

Welcome Tete  like maman said, feel free to ask any questions. If you feel like you need a bit of motivation then feel free to join in our bi-monthly challenges, we only have one week left of this one but i'll be collecting target losses for the next one next week, if you want to join us.

Greenbeanie - i have the first 2 HB books, they have some lovely recipes in them but not all of them are SW friendly..

Had a bad day today :( we went out shopping and ending up with large sandwiches, crisps and sweets  for lunch..

Got a chicken to roast tonight so that should last a few days, just need to work out some SW friendly meals to use the leftovers.

    Hope everyone's having a good weekend x
