Morning all
Bit disgruntled to report another STS this week. Further evidence that wine syns don't have the same effect as cake and toast.
Well done hanert, charmed, sandhy and everyone else who's managed to lose this week. :T
Saver-upper - I don't envy you the challenge of getting the kids to eat different foods. You could try fajitas but using less spice. I make my own fajita spice and use about 1 tbsp. because DH doesn't like things too hot. If you use a fajita kit, just use a teaspoonful. Kids love assembling them because they're messy, you don't need knives and forks and you can encourage them to have salad, salsa, guacamole as well as the peppers and onions that you cook with the chicken.
Beanie - welcome back
Have a good day everyone, I'm looking forward to some Friday night wine syns!

You can definitely "hide" lots of veg in any of the sauces that they will eat especially things like chilli - have you tried making it with washed off baked beans? Apparently quite a few kids are happy to eat chilli with baked beans but not with kidney beans - have to say I was an adult before I'd actually eaten a chilli because my mum was so fussy!!! It was always very plain basic stuff - she wouldn't even eat onions so food was always very bland and tasted awful! The "experts" say that you need to try new foods at least 10 times before you can say you don't like it!
I hate onions... my OH has warned me though that when we have kids we are to try to hide this as he doesn't want them to be a fussy eater like me! I'm not afraid of herbs and spices (Although I don't like food too spicy because my tastebuds can't handle it) so hopefully my food isn't too bland!
I have tried onions more than 10 times, it's a no go :P
I did used to hate mushrooms and now do like them though. If it's any consolation fussy kids may become less fussy as they get older. I think when I was 9 I wouldn't even eat much a roast dinner. I liked the yorkshire pud and gravy(obviously not if it had onions in), maybe a little mash and meat but not much. Veg had no chance. My mom used to feed me build up shakes because she was so worried I ate so little (out of fussiness though I wasn't trying to not eat much) And now here we are aged 27 and overweight....
Hiding veg is a good trick.. it never worked with me and onions I was an expert at fishing them out because they have a unique texture, but various other vegetables can hide with the rest. Carrot and potato mash is a good way of squeezing in some extra carrots for example. Also I did feel bad about being so picky and recognised myself if I could hide the flavour of the vegetable it was ok (and so then I'd hide vegetables in my gravy soaked yorkshire pudding :P). Even now I don't like the flavour of vegetables on their own on a plate but I can convince myself to be a grown up and eat it (for some veg.... not for the ones I still find too gross). With a sauce is better though.Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0 -
Cauliflower in mash is a good one to hide
xx all white so no colour difference
My mini is a good little eater she'll try most things if it's off someone else's plate the first time? If I put it straight on to her plate she'd refuse point blank - she's done this numerous times in the past with fish so I gave up doing her fish then a few weeks ago the boy offered her some of his and she tried it and now Is asking for fish every night. I think some of it has to be on their terms?
(She'll also scoff beans now from trying off someone else's plate)
Have you tried the onion granules to add the flavour of onion but not the texture?
I eat quite a limited veg and fruit selection really but I'm trying to improve this last month or so it's been mushrooms try to eat mushrooms in mealsso far I've ate them but not enjoyed them
Did have green beans last week but they came with a steak and chips meal so felt obliged to eat them - left the tomatoes though - Mildredd doesn't do fresh or looks like tomato tomatoesand defo no by themselves

I chuck onions, carrots, mushrooms and celery into the food processor and it's virtually like mash so you get the flavours without the texture. Worth a try?
Agree with Mildredd cauliflower is easier to hide in mash than carrots. My DH isn't keen on carrots but will eat a few but definitely not if mashed with potatoes. He won't eat anything mixed in with his mashed potatoes:rotfl: He also won't eat swede and carrot mash - I tried that on top of shepherds pie so I could have a Red day but he really didn't like it and just ate the meaty part of it along with the green veg I'd put on the plate.

Ah yes I do recommend trying the onion granules if you have a fussy eater who won't like them but are somehow convinced the dish will be ruined without onion flavour. I don't mind using onion granules at all. I even eat pickled onion crisps.
It's funny as fussy as I am I do like other foods that are typical for people to be fussy about. Like kidney beans, baked beans etc, love them. Tomato? Love them, I even eat cherry tomatoes as a snack sometimes.
Onion, Leek, Celery, Cucumber, Peppers? Nope unless it is properly blended in and doesn't even taste of it at all.Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0 -
Fortunately, the only veg I don't like are spring greens, swede, spring greens and celeriac. I know of people that only like 4 veg!
Fruit is a different matter. I don't like mushy apples like golden delicious. Don't like pears but I love pear drops. Only like certain plums. Don't like oranges eaten in segments - has to be satsumas, clementines. Don't like gooseberries, kiwis either.
As I live alone, there are certain f&v I don't buy. Cabbage, melons, fresh pineapples, celery among others. My mum gives me 3-4 sticks of celery. Then if I see any reduced prepared pineapple or melon - i buy it then. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Took sausage on sticks to a friends the other week, weight watchers sausage 1/2 syn each, cut into 3 and put on cocktail stick with half a cherry tomato, and slice cucumber, everyone loved them and didn't realise they were not normal sausages.
A bowl of no syn coleslaw can be made quickly with grated carrot cabbage, celery and onion and sweetcorn dressed with Kraft light Italian dressing. Chicken drumsticks skin removed. Mini quiches, hard boiled eggs, celery boats, cut celery into small lenths fill with
cottage cheese and top with prawns.Slimming World at target0 -
What do we need to do in order to go on the 'chart'?I would like to go on the chart too if it isn't too late.
Just let me know how much your target weight loss is up to week ending 28th June and i'll pop you on.. then all you need to do is post your results each week and i'll collect them and put them on there too..
On the subject of fussy eaters - would it be worth making your tea look really nice and give them boring tea - I've found kids always want something they can't have :rotfl: reverse psycholog-ise them (i'm aware that's not a word btw)
OH is out tonight so I grabbed a SW Chicken Tikka meal for tea - I really liked it, although I didn't use all the sauce. I am stuffed thoughMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0
