Can I ask, is it really possible to do SW without going to a class? and also can it be done on a budget? There is a new class opening very near me next week but I cannot really afford to go each week, also on the website the recipes look expensive and I don't have much money for extra food - the fruit on its own is a scary price ( I don't buy fruit except bananas sometimes). So what is the best way to start do you think? Hope someone can help me as I am 5' and weigh 11st 1lb also have some health issues, and am undergoing tests. Hugs Lantanna .Why don't you get sick pay?I thought everyone was entitled to that.
I'm entitled to government sick pay which is roughly £75 a week once you are off four days or more. I don't get company sick pay so I would only get £75 a week which would not cover my rent never mind anything else etc.
Major problems in this country as we all no! And I'll not take my bad mood out on everyone else but the whole thing is a disgrace.0 -

Anything is possible, but how much accountability do you need?
Do you need weekly weigh in's to keep you on track?
Personally I do spend more on food, but at least it's not harming my body, you need to factor this in too.I'm entitled to government sick pay which is roughly £75 a week once you are off four days or more. It is so easy to fall flat on your face in this country.
The whole thing about hard-working people is a disgrace, you work hard, get sick, then get punched in the face, there is no adequate protection for those hard working people once things go wrong.

Hi hanert, welcome to the thread
It is definitely possible to lose weight without going to a SW class, there are several people here on the thread, myself included, who are doing very well doing just that.
You will need a starter pack, and the best way to get one is go along to a class once, you'll get the starter talk and the essential info, then don't go back. You'll be saving yourself £4.95 a week and you can ask us as many questions as you like.
As far as the cost of eating healthily is concerned, it really depends what you eat now. Vegetables and fruit are key to success with Sw and buying them fresh can be expensive, but cheap versions are also free and it's often possible to find YS (yellow sticker) items for very little money if you're prepared to be flexible with what you eat.
Got to go, but I'm sure others will be along with more info.

hanert :hello:
Welcome to the thread.
I signed up to SW online for 3 months and apart from getting the healthy eating booklet etc and weighing in weekly found it a waste of time. So I have gone it alone couldn't have gone to a class don't like crowds plus applauding me would have been
I did buy loads fruit at the beginning but hardly eat fruit now
I do eat loads vegetables which if you buy the frozen ones work out cheap.
Look at my signature that's from July 10th last year and I will be at goal this Thursday when I weigh in :j:j:j:j
People on here do recommend going to class once and getting the booklets then going it alone HTH0 -
Good Afternoon
lantanna hope you soon get a diagnosis and find out whats wrong (((X)))0 -
Smedley Punched in the face just sums it up nicely!!
My mother and I were talking this morning about all of the silly trees and things that they seem to plant near us to then remove them 6 months later lol
What can you do but just hope for the best and be good
I have enough painkillers to knock out an elephant lol At least we don't have to pay for prescriptions anymore or I would be bankrupt right now lol0 -

Welcome hanert. Like others have said, your best bet is to go to a class once. It'll cost you £10 but that will buy you the books and you'll have an introductory talk to explain how the plan works. New books came out in January so lots of the ones for sale on ebay are not up to date. After that, just stick around on here and ask questions. You'll soon get the hang of it.
It really isn't necessary to spend a lot to do SW. I shop mostly in Aldi and, like tweets, eat far more veg than I do fruit. You can have fresh, frozen or canned veg. Incidentally bananas aren't the best fruit to have, you're better off with apples. Meat portions don't have to be large and you can have veggie meals if you like. Mostly I eat leftovers at lunchtime or have HM soup or a jacket potato or a quick omelette. Probably the most expensive thing I buy is Frylight spray oil. And just think how much you'll save because you won't be buying many crisps or cakes or biscuits or chocolate bars!:rotfl:0 -
Well I lost 2 lbs at my first weigh in however I am convinced it was lighter clothing and not an actual loss of weigh as I did adhere exactly to plan. I do well during the week but weekends are my downfall
However I am striving to do better this week!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
