Just wondering if anyone had any tips on avoiding emotional eating?
Not massively, but the best strategy is to find something on plan that you really love to eat or isn't too bad. I really like plain yoghurt with a chocolate highlights in it, it reminds me of the munch bunch chocolate yoghurt of my youth.
Or pasta with cheese on it.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Haven't been on for about a week so have loads of catching up to do in my lunch break later! Just a flying visit to report a (measly) - 0.5 loss!
Have a good day all0 -
You're just winding me up now wiz!! So pleased it's working for you.:A
Well done wiz! They say you need to try new foods at least 10 times before you can say you don't like them:rotfl:
Agreed! Haven't heard about your men friends for a while so do keep us posted.
Agree too - definitely gave me a laugh! Didn't see that coming at all, LOL!
That's you and shala having BBQ/Pulled meat today denise. I'd like to know how they work out as I've only 'cheated' with the Tesco version so far as I was tempted because it's syn free.
I just use the recipe on the SW website, which incidentally is also FREE. I find it a little bit sweet so generally don't add quite as much sweetner as the recipe. It says 3 Tbs, I use 2 & a bit!
I didn't have any shoulder of pork so used a pork shank which I picked up in Morries a few weeks ago for £1.50, I think, which I'd frozen. It worked really well, although the sauce was a bit thick cooking it so long in the slow cooker.
Although the shank wasn't particularly big there was enough leftover for DH to take some to work this morning for his lunch, although I did water down the sauce a bit as he complained about the thickness of it last night, LOL!
The shank definitely didn't "pull" quite as well as shoulder does, probably because it doesn't have the fat marbling that shoulder has.
I definitely think it's worth doing and the prep doesn't take very long, about 20 minutes in total as you need to cook the sauce first before putting it in the SC although think I may try it without doing that next time to see whether the sauce works as well and isn't so thick.
As ever, feeling stuffed after dinner but it should subside tomorrow. I always feel like this at the end of the weekend but at least it motivates me going forward.
Having a Green day today although have had to change what I had originally planned as haven't got any decent potatoes for jackets and can't get to the farm shop as DH has taken the car this morning!
B - strawberries, grapes, FF yoghurt
L - HM hummous, Ryvitas (HEB1)
D - Egg, SW chips, baked beans, mushrooms (DH will probably have bacon as well!) bread & butter (HEB2 + 2); rice pudding
HEA1 - milk in tea throughout the day
HEA2 - milk to make rice pudding
Sorry for the long post - that seems to have been a bit of an essay!

I have little tubs of 'it just needs microwaving' in the freezer so I don't raid the biscuits/chocolate/crisps. Others have told me that I should opt for a glass of water before going to the calorie cupboard. I find that if I eat a little bit of something and then go for a walk/wii-fit the 'down' shifts to an up.

Hard drive fails are annoying, if you have photos / important stuff on there, get them onto a USB/chip/disk quick. Once it's gone...everything on there is lost.
As far as I know Swiper the photos and documents are backed up thank goodness.SallyCinnamon wrote: »Hi Everyone,

Currently waiting for the Drs to ring me back as this kidney infection is still annoying me.
I've changed to Saturday weigh in. Sorry to be a pain!! I don't have my own scales and will always be able to access the same ones on Saturday! Anyway Plus 5
That's what I lost when I was really ill so not too bothered and after the eating of last weekend etc I'm glad it wasn't anymore. I'm no worse off. Hopefully I'll get a good run now and get rid of this fast.
I'm craving bread today lots of bread! If I knew how to control emotional eating I'd tell you but I definitely don't !

Much of my emotional eating comes from if I've had a row with someone or someone's upset me. I too think 'sod it' or 'what's the point'. However I once watched an episode of ' A year to Save my Life' (or something to that effect). Basically an extremely overweight person is given a year to lose weight and turn their lives around, they are given a personal trainer. One lady was doing really well but kept being pulled down by lack of encouragement from her husband. On one occasion she went to the take-away/shop and binged. The PA said when this happens the only person she is hurting is herself and she should think of another way to get back at her OH. This has always stuck with me. I also tell myself I'll end up feeling worse because I'll feel fat and a failure on top of everything else.
Retail therapy, even just window shopping or trying on clothes for the fun of it, can be uplifting. If I can't get out I do it online, say on BayofE, and plan on what I'd wear when I get to a particular size.
If you can manage it book a beauty session - I have a regular massage at our local College it only costs £6 and really helps with stress levels. If not have a pamper session at home, bubble bath, de-fuzz, moisturise, facial etc.
Lose yourself in a book or a film.
When I'm craving chocolate I'll have a cup of cocoa, I still get the chocolate hit without the calories. Then there are sugar free or low syn sweets, so even if you do have a binge its not so damaging.

Morning all
I've been poring over the food directory for free foods and low syn 'bargains' and I'm now armed with a list of things to look for in Morrison's this afternoon.I may have been looking in the wrong place, but the Iceland SW ready meals aren't listed - someone's head should roll for leaving those out!
Had an off plan meal yesterday - went for a carvery and I only had 1 roastie, which was gorgeous, but also had a couple of cocktail sausages, stuffing, gravy and couldn't resist the cauliflower cheese. Lots of free veg too, including sprouts :j - I really missed them in Spain. :rotfl:
Back on plan today but not sure what we'll have for dinner yet, I must do a meal plan for the week. I've only been planning and shopping for 2/3 days at a time and last week we seemed to eat chicken, onion and peppers in one form or another several times!
Really need to find alternatives to HEA/B for breakfast so we can save the HEs for later but we seem to be stuck in a rut - in Spain we were happy to have fruit and yogurt but we're not finding fruit very inspiring since we've been back. Every time I buy melon it's under ripe and sits on the counter for ages before its ready. I cut one up after 10 days and it was tasteless. I used to complain about the price of melon in Spain but at least it was nice to eat! (Never happy some people!)

On the subject of emotional eating, I know from personal experience that it is very destructive and my only advice is to recognise when you're at risk and have a strategy for coping with it.
People have offered some good ideas and one I'd add is not to have the tempting foods to hand in the first place - this isn't always possible of course, right now I'm sitting in a shop filled with temptation of all kinds! I love biscuits but I stopped buying them because I know 1 or 2 is never enough and if there's a packet open in the cupboard they call to me until I give in and eat them.
I can somehow resist an unopened packet of biscuits sitting on the shelf in the shop. *shrug*
My other strategy is to remind myself of my SW mantra - *nothing tastes as good as being slim feels* - I wrote about this recently so apologies for the repetition, but I do feel it applies to emotional eating as well. If you're feeling down ask yourself if eating x (insert devil's food of your choice here) will make you happier than losing weight at your next weigh-in would.
Sometimes the answer is yes, and that's okay too, but the trick then is to enjoy the treat and not beat yourself up for eating it which will only make you more miserable.
Sorry for the long post, I didn't think I had much to say on the subject but once I get started there's no stopping me... :rotfl:

A funny old weekend which ties in with the emotional eating.
I went to visit a good friend in hosp Sat.
Went in to a clothes shop in hosp(!!) & they had a full length mirror, my legs in my leggings were not a pretty sight. So thought must get back on track blah blah.
Went to visit said friend & she had been told a very short & sad prognosis just minutes before I got there. Shellshocked not even close.
So I have veered since then between feeling sick, hardly eating & eating crap.
Though of course it is so NOT about ME.
