    Yes! Rubbish!
I take it you mean microwave or packet rice? If so, no I don't like it.

I hate the fact that the supermarket shelves are full of packet rice, microwave rice and hardly have any just ordinary rice to cook yourself. I am also always amazed how many people buy the much more expensive packets or microwave stuff.

I like red rice, brown rice and basmati rice - don't put any salt in it though or in pasta

Yes it adds flavour, the flavour of salt, I much prefer my rice to taste of rice rather than hot rice shaped salt. If you cook rice properly it doesn't stick to the pan or itself.
Either you are using too much or you have super sensitive taste buds, as a pinch of salt should not do that. Salt is a flavour enhancer, which is why it appears in so many recipes.

I burnt rice the other day and i must have had to wash the pan about 10 times to get it clean again. I only left it on low but then came in here in the lounge and it wasn't until the smell drifted in.

In post #5 the OP has posted a link to easycook rice so it's not the microwave stuff.

I'd have thought the simple solution would be to leave the stuff you don't like on the shelf & buy the 'proper' raw rice.

Does this (non) issue really need a poll?

My method is simple, rinse rice for 10-20 mins or so under the cold tap, chuck in rice cooker (£20 from local chinese hypermarket) add water, switch on.

(seriously, how do you burn rice?).

Usually by setting the time on the timer but forgetting to press Start.

In which case, you want to use one of the "measured" methods of cooking rice whereby you measure the correct amount of liquid in relation to the quantity of rice, boil, and switch off all heat. The rice will absorb the boiling water and cook, but cannot burn.

    eta. Post 21 describes this.

I agree, I've always wished pouch rice did taste normal/nice, but it doesn't - and it has a peculiar texture. The best one I've tried so far is the Lidl one, I bought some when they were half price (24p) as I felt I could live with it at that price for emergencies, then the basmati and the egg fried rice were passable.... not passable enough to pay full price for though.

I make rice with Tesco Basmati rice - into a microwave steamer with some water for 5 minutes, stir, 5 minutes, stir/taste, 3-5 minutes depending how the tasting bit went.
Makes two portions, so I box one up immediately for the following day... could make just one portion in the steamer, but that seems a waste of time/effort.
