The real reason why they prefer home owners is obviously that they've happened across HPC..

    Hi

I'm new to the forum, so go easy, but on more than one occasion has a guy asked if I own or rent. I told them I own and seen their face light up, so I think its men aswell. Having said that I'm still single, so maybe they don't want a girl with a house after all, maybe I mis-read and it was terror in their faces!!

I've been a homeowner for a year now and I think it has changed my outlook quite a lot.
I'm actually quite domesticated now. I bought a steam generator iron a few weeks ago and it was only 1/2 a point away from buying tools for the garage in terms of fun factor. I have compulsive cleaning tendancies.
I've also bought quite a few pairs of shoes recently. I favour the mountain approach shoes, sort of heavy duty trainers you can buy. I've just been looking at my latest pair and thinking "they're gorgeous".

Going soft in the head I think.

Gwen, good on you! I hope I can still date at 80. Maybe that's what put them off... ;)

The whole house before getting together thing is interesting. Maybe they had a house too, and didn't want to risk being shafted/moneygrabbed?

As a homeowner, if the choosen one happens to have a house already, as well as reducing my risk, it also means combined wealth (and not just debt hopefully) and early retirement (together!) dreams, so I'd probably smile too.

    A year already?! I'm getting old :o

Loving the steam generating iron. I was given one as a present, they're great. Unfortunately, I'm growing rather attached to the man that comes and does my ironing! I can't sell my iron as the Mother In Law thinks it's me that irons. :o

I think it's all about a feeling of confidence and success. I rent a 1-bed flat currently (although just bought a 3-bed place) but the £40K sports car seems to go a long way to making up for the rented flat when it comes to women.

It's not gold digging, it's just that whether you like it or not success is attractive. Same in reverse, if I meet a girl who own her own place I'd expect her to be more confident (and as a result more successful).

We need a new thread - Sports cars v Houses: which is better for attracting women.

I still say we need an MSE dating site :D
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

Owning something doesn't mean success though; it can just mean the ability to borrow.
I prefer the subtle approach. I could afford to spend a lot more on a car, but I prefer to run something that looks a bit manky but entertains me and is not a financial liability.
