Don't see how your son would seem like a " poor kid" Alex, 2x working parents and he has the privelige of parents who teach him lots of extra curricular things.
Why is state school inferior, I get why one particular school over another but surely it should be viewed on a school by school basis?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
So, the 'phone call happened (not surprised in the slightest) and I've just got home. One plus to staying here, they think I go to bed at 10pm :rotfl:. Had a nice excuse to get away. Tonight they decided they wanted the piano played, almost said people usually pay me for that
and to tell me that they hate tourists coming to the county.
Even bigger can of worms opened with talking about In-Laws to Mrs K ... she's been on the 'phone to them and arranged for us to see them later on in the week as "it's been a long time since they've seen our son". That would be acceptable if not for the fact she is at work. Really don't want to go there on my own, may just tell them I don't have the time to drive there (they don't live locally) and invite them here ... 10 minutes before a music pupil.:rotfl:

Great fresh air work in the horsey world.
State education is bloody brilliant Alex. Private education is not without it's problems.
Definitely agree re. the horsey work. Cousin has a riding school and livery yard, so son will never be too far from a job to do during school holidays.
Regarding education, I absolutely agree that every school state led or independent has it's own set of problems. My reason for wanting son to move away from his current (state) school once a bit older is purely due to the emphasis put on 'core' subjects at the expense of other subjects.Don't see how your son would seem like a " poor kid" Alex, 2x working parents and he has the privelige of parents who teach him lots of extra curricular things.

Perhaps I'm just concerned for no reason.
See explanation above re. state education.2018 totals:

In your shoes I would develop a faulty phone for a bit of peace in the evenings for a while and let your mobiles run flat, you are a way more patient person than me, but then I have "mil phoning " radar, I always know when its her, sometimes I answer , sometimes not ...evil cackle :rotfl:

Why not ask the in-laws to do you a big favour and look after LittleK for a couple of hours while you go to 'visit a client'? That way you could be polite when you arrive, maybe swallow a coffee and then just a short time again when you pick them up.
You'll have to do something about the parents in the evenings, this can't go on indefinitely. You could make excuses but sooner or later you'll have to have some ground rules.
I despair reading that LittleK could ever be considered a 'poor kid'. he's not poor in monetary terms or experiences or anything else.0 -

:rotfl: I've told them they need to find a new source of entertainment and that I won't be going there in the evenings more than once per week. Why not ask the in-laws to do you a big favour and look after LittleK for a couple of hours while you go to 'visit a client'? Can't say I want him there on his own. To be honest, I'd rather they come to my house (own territory) should they wish to see their grandson.

I meant in monetary terms; we're hardly rich.2018 totals:

Love it!!

Not really fair when LK can go to your parents' house on his own...what does Mrs K think? LK should see that not everyone is rich like your parents.
Ground rules have been made.
Glad to hear it

Try earning about £36k a year between you.
You're getting there, Alex...
Am glad you and Little K are both on the mend! Being ill is rubbish.

Yep. SIL went through a stage of ringing every night for ages.
Have to say I sometimes forgot to turn the phone ringer on.0 -
turtlemoose: Compared to the majority of people I know Mrs K and I live on a budget.
HBS: Thanks.
Not letting my son stay with In-Laws is nothing to do with how much or little money they've got. If I left him there, they'd sit him in front of the TV or play silly games on their iPad and give him sweets. I know this because they do that with their other grandchildren, despite the fact Mother-In-Law should know better; she's a nurse.
Mrs K and I earn just over £50,000 after tax if I count all income revenues (including income that goes to savings), as I said we're hardly rich.

You know the story of crying wolf?
If they really need you they will actually want 999. Or whatever it is in Derbyshire.0
