  • Happy New Year to all! I'll probably fall off posting again in the next few days as work picks up but I do miss the board, so I hope you'll all forgive the in and out with long posts!

The brisket was ok yesterday--I think OH would have liked it far more tender but it wasn't tough as old boots or anything. The sauce was lovely though. I'd like to use the leftovers to make rissoles--I almost never cook a roast so I've only ever made them with lentils.

Tomorrow we'll take a short 2-3 mile sunrise walk as it is forecast to be clear and I have new (very long saved for!) walking boots I'm dying to break in :D.

We have some exciting plans for this year that I've been talking about for a long time. This board is always so supportive on the very long run up to these plans, so I thought it might be nice to share. In late spring we'll be moving somewhere more rural. We've narrowed it down to several communities and we'll go with where we find the best place to rent with the view to trying it out and seeing if it is the sort of place we might like to buy. We'll spend that year getting to know areas/the ins and outs of commuting etc. and by spring 2018 we should be financially ready to start looking although we're planning to take our time finding 'the one.' We've been planning this for around five years, so to finally start doing something besides just saving feels very nice! We may also finally buy a car at some point late in this year and that will open up a whole new type of adventure for us! I can't wait to go on day trips that haven't been accessible by train/bus.

I worked quite a lot this year and finished a very big project in December. I have a tough challenge learning some new things between now and Easter, and I'm starting to apply for full time permanent jobs now. Although I could still do with more on my CV, I'm still progressing but without overdoing it (don't worry Lyn! I'm not a workaholic, I like pottering around at home too much!). It may alter our 'where' plans on house buying, but the timetable will probably still be fine.

I also worked hard to try to make some closer friends/do more sociall outside of work this past year and although it is slow going, I'm proud of getting to know some people better. I'm still mulling over how I'll continue that this year. I'm not sure our local WI is really 'me.' I enjoy the craft group, but find the general meetings tough going. Given we'll be moving I'm considering just trying to find a craft group locally to attend and then I can look at other options after we move. Perhaps a different WI will suit me more and might be a good way to get to know a smaller community.

I guess in all my only aims for this year are to continue living and creating the life I want. I'd love to read any plans or goals the rest of you have.x

All my wishes are that we all have a healthier and happier year.

Personally I am hoping for a satisfactory sale of this house and the right bungalow, at the right price to pop up for me at the right time.

Just now the house is looking a bit, no, a lot worse for wear. Having two households crammed into one house is not easy at the best of times. Add in the aftermath of a riotous Christmas, a lovely DIL whose default setting is extreme clutter and untidiness, a four year old diva who takes after her mother, an autistic grandson who has a toy lorry collecting obsession, a large, ugly, clumsy but affectionate dog and the result is the sort of chaos not relished by your average estate agent.

However, nil desperandum. This morning this house is to open its doors to the one element that has so far been missing. A small, bouncy Dalmatian puppy is expected at any moment now.

Dora has been lurking on the edges of our lives for a couple of weeks now, going for walks with us, coming, with her mum and dad to visit the house and generally getting used to the atmosphere. She was one of ten puppies born to one of our neighbours.
Well, to their dog really but you get my drift.
She is the last puppy to be homed as they are keeping one of the litter.

Today she moves in for real.

I don't think I have the nerve to turn this whole boiling mayhem over to an estate agent.
Perhaps I should write the description myself. I have in mind the blurb that began.......

"DO NOT BUY THIS AWFUL HOUSE." and it was sold within 24 hours.

We certainly live in interesting times.

Happy New Year to all you garden fencers.

I hope you don't mind me gate-crashing your thread, but I've been reading it for a while now and thought I'd de lurk as it felt rude of me to read and not comment.

2016 wasn't a good year for me but neither was 2015, which by all accounts was horrendous :(. So I for one am determined this year will be a good one. I'm not sure how I achieve that but will endeavour to try and improve my lot.

I was in bed by 11pm last night and thankfully slept through which is something of a miracle...here's hoping that's the first positive of the year.

Forgive my ramblings and I hope you don't mind me joining you all every now and again.

    All the best.
