My plans for 2017 include (yet another
) new job which I start on Tuesday, improving mine & DH's mental & physical health and wellbeing, getting onto the allotment more regularly and considering some redecoration of our home. The paint hasn't been refreshed since last decade at the most recent, so in some rooms it's looking a "little tired"!

Welcome to the thread everyone
No move in date yet. The cheque went out of our bank account the week before Christmas for the searches so as the council are back in work in a few days I expect I'll hear more. The solicitors wrote for the ownership/mortgage breakdown and proof of buildings/contents insurance we have set up for the property. I have £38 cashback from this which I'm putting towards pots and pans
Ginny I lost my mam in October. My sister and I received a pension death grant from mam's pension. DH and I have put that towards a tiny 2 up 2 down plus bathroom stone terraced up the tops near to where we live now.
Ah my machine. It's fab. I spent my new years being a little weird mood wise so to shake it I quilted myself a tablet cover complete with applique patchwork heart. I just need to learn how to use the button hole function to finish it off. It isn't the best quality item but I'm learning, right? haha. I'm also redoing my quilt top but I'm taking my time this, the second time round.
Thank you for the well wishes.0 -
So glad you will have your own home Fuddle, wishing you and your family all the best in the new year in your new home.Chin up, Titus out.0

Do you know, you lot put me to shame. My problems are so miniscule compared to the difficulties and sadnesses that you are facing every day of your lives.
I've said it before but most of you deserve bouquets, trumpet fanfare and a quick burst of the Hallelujah chorus just for getting out of bed in the morning.
I salute you all.
Dora is getting us all licked into shape quite satisfactorily. Big dog Millie is apt to scatter food far and wide when she eats. Dora is horrified at this wanton waste of food. Every inch of the kitchen floor has been gone over with her busy little tongue and she has scoured the skirting boards. DS is thinking of renaming her Dyson. I just think we should hire her out as a janitor.
I have just gone downstairs where I found DS snoring peacefully on the sofa with a small Dalmatian puppy cuddled up to him. This was the tough man who decreed that if we must have this pup she would be brought up properly. No titbits. No soppiness and absolutely no climbing on the furniture.
Ha ha. He is putty in her paws. He was observed this afternoon walking round with her in his arms and telling her the story of the three little pigs. She enjoyed that and I think it won't be long before he is reading Winnie the Pooh to her. Big Softie!
The rain is beating against the windows and it has been dark and wet all day. Hope this is not a taste of what we can expect for the rest of the year.

Is Dora the Pup going to be yours or the families?Must use my stash up!0 -
The family's Knit Witch. Definitely the family's.
At my age it would absolutely not be fair to take on a puppy.
I have wondered if I might take on an old rescue dog when I get my own home again. We could potter about together, complaining about our aches and pains and taking an elderly nap in the afternoons.
I would not feel justified in having a pet for my own pleasure and possibly shuffling off this mortal coil leaving a hurt and bereft animal behind.
Of course, if I could be sure of living to my Dads age (97) there would be no problem, but we don't have these sorts of certainties, do we?
Fuddle, pots and pans sound exciting. Is there a cooker in the house or do you have to buy a new one?
You are doing very well with your machine. I have only done boring things with mine - like putting blackout linings in Pickle's bedroom curtains. It's another thing I am looking forward to getting to grips with.

Yesterday DD1 texted to say they had a SWAT team on their roof with snipers pointing their guns at the house next door. Someone broke in through the attic while a 10 yr old was there alone. His grandmother had gone to the grocery story a couple of blocks away for milk and cereal. He shut himself in a closet and called 911 (our emergency number) and then ran out of the house when police arrived. They waited 5 hrs before entering to sweep the house but no one was there. They did find the ladder against the house and the area where it had been broken into. DD1, Quoye and both dogs had gone to a cabin in the mountains but SIL had stayed home to work. (He designs web sites) Both of these houses had been broken into in the last 6 months. The neighbor had put bars on their windows and doors but Olivia has not. She thinks it probably would have been their house again if her OH had not been there. It has to be someone in the neighborhood watching their cars leaving. Other houses on the block have also been robbed.
We were so hopeful the lowlife was going to be caught but he/she must have left when the boy ran out and before the perimeter was secured.
Holy yikes!Overprepare, then go with the flow.
