Hello all, Happy New Year, I had an MSE break but came back the other week, good to see you all still here.

A very low key NY for me, I am usually round at friends who host an annual party, but they gave it a swerve this year, as their presence was required elsewhere. I did watch TV fireworks and live music online.
Mothers in law.. My MiL, born 1902, adopted the ex in her early 50s, he was nearly 14 years older than me.

She was already showing very early signs of early onset dementia when I first met her, which was so sad, as she had been a pretty remarkable woman. When we divorced, she had already died, but I stayed in touch with the family. They are the reason I kept my married name. Fantastic bunch.

    MiL features in 'Peaky Blinders'

I smiled at the earlier mention of Springer Spaniels being characters by Hester. DD and her family have two, and yes, they are!

May 2017 be kinder than expected, given the way 2016 behaved.

Hester The word lazy is NOT one that I see in your vocabulary. You do so much I'm surprised you don't meet yourself coming back half the time. I agree however, it has to be the fish.

Monna Dora sounds like she could be a handful. Fingers crossed for house selling and bungalow finding.

Fuddle Looking forward to pictures and tales of the big event.

My years plans end in August. At that point anything, anywhere is possible. Could be Australia, or Nottingham, or somewhere temporary for six months to a year. Until then I'm going to be prepping like mad, re-writing my CV and trying not to plan for scenarios A-Z. I need to make sure everything is organised and ready for everything and nothing though so I think some kondoing will be the order of the day.

FPK as a result, I'm jealous. But really happy for you. Grab life with both hands.

Had the grand kiddies for the night and very little sleep ensued but it meant Mummy and Daddy finally had a nights peaceful uninterrupted sleep. Breakfast was a little bit like a riot but small one was kept busy with a tub of dry cereal rings.

Dgs has begged for his wee sister to stay and we did a trial last week when their house was burgled so Dd and her Oh could scour the place. However he doesn't sleep much and his arrival in my bed at 3.30 just after her feed meant I really didn't get back to sleep. I don't care though, I can sleep all day today and tomorrow if I wish and in the immortal words of Freddy Mercury ' nothing really matters to me'

Pea soup for lunch went down well in between Hubs naps. He is in bed most of the time now but does guard the children so I can do important things like cook, find things and oh yes occasionally have a wee :rotfl:

Now going to sit and crochet as that's all my arm is capable of still. Have a rice pud in the slow cooker as a reward for my toil :p Like Hester I have a mass of machine sewing but not sure if my arm will let me do it, I know I cant hand sew yet.

Received a beautiful calendar that Ds had printed for me with photo's stolen from our FB pages and a beautiful personal quotes along side them. He and his wifey are so frugal but thoughtful too.

This year I intend to clear the house, sell what I can and plan for the future, whatever that may be. Hubbys health is seriously deteriorating so I need to allow for him needing to stay in bed all the time and be organised enough for his care. I also need a new arm so if anyone has one knocking around please forward it.

Monna hope all goes well with the sale of the house and you can get a peaceful place to call your own.

FPK you are doing well with your plans and glad to see you are being sensible about it, but expect nothing less from you.

Fuddle, where are you moving to, I missed a post I guess - another lady who has blossomed and grown since I first heard of her.

Mrs LW lovely to hear your wisdom as ever xxxx

Dear Ginnyknit I'm so sorry your Husbands health has worsened . Life certainly knows how to kick people when they're down .
If I had a decent arm you would be welcome to it but that ship has sailed ! I am still managing a little knitting but small doses only .
I well understand your planning ahead but please try as much as possible to pace yourself as much as you can - pot, kettle .black here but I have knocked myself off my my feet a few times in the past year by pushing on and on against what my body was saying and it isn't a good way to live .
Wishing you some chinks of light in the year ahead .
Lovely gift from your son and his wife - they know you so well .
    Love polly x

    Good evening :)

I've been reading for the last 2-3 weeks and thought it was about time I said hello :) I recognise some names from other threads and hester from her blog. Am another one who is hoping 2017 is a better year than 2016 (which was a much better year than 2015) Some of this will be down to an improved attitude on my part - I cannot change what others do, but I can change how I react to it :) x
