Yes, I know. Fun spoiling is something of a speciality subject with me. But it's no fun when they twig what we are doing. You listening Mrs LW?
Wow! Softstuff, I am impressed. Where are all the "what if" items? Even if I am only going away for the weekend I have to have all the bases covered. Still, as you say, plenty of room for CS goodies.
I'm sitting here waiting for DIL and DG to come back from a birthday party. Apparently it's the thing now to have children's parties from 11am till 1pm. All the mothers are there and a sort of birthday buffet is set up. Mostly this is held in a ball park or somewhere where the children have laid on entertainment.
What happened to parties in houses with pass the parcel and other games set up by the harassed party giver, followed by sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps, jelly, ice cream and cake made by the even more harassed (and probably drunk by this time) mother of the lucky birthday child. Oh, how we enjoyed those parties!!!! Modern mothers don't know they are born.
Anyway the local village pub are doing a special offer Sunday lunch so we are all off up there when the party goers return.

Will definitely be taking DD to the charity shop when she comes. It belongs to a church and it is a drop in centre and has a coffee shop so very pleasant in there. They had some other wallpaper so I may get that for my bedroom.
Ivyleaf DS has been wearing work socks for the past five years he has a mixture of jcb and cat. He wears them because of the thickness as he too has a very narrow foot.
I actually wanted walking socks in cotton but it is too early for them to have them in yet. They are made of fine wool with a special wick system that draws moisture away from the inside to the outside. I expected them to be expensive, around £8 to £9 but not £15. They have padding in all the areas you can get blisters. The best thing is they are guaranteed three years. Work socks don't last that long.
I expected there to be more than the one specialist shop after all we are fairly close to three of the best walking areas in the country, the Lakes, The Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales. We are coming up to the bank holiday when half the town walks up our local peak, Rivington Pike.0 -
MITSTM: take no notice of Islandmaid, it is a favourite pastime for islanders to lull prospective visitors into a false sense of security. Take it from one who knows, sorting out the passport and visa is only the beginning. There is then the matter of injections and vaccinations, medical examinations, malaria pills, financial disclosure, police clearance............ Then you have to run the gamut of customs, health and safety checks and your teeth will be examined to ensure that you have not lied about your age. Before you step on to the ferry make sure that all liquids, toothpaste, hand cream etcetera are in clear plastic bags.
Welcome to the Isle of Wight.

Ah...I see....aka the "dry sense of humour" = equivalent to all the comments I've had since moving elsewhere in T'Country (ie from Southern England to Wales) about "Have you got your passport on you?:rotfl:".
I should know by now shouldnt I? - as one of my parents describes themself as "cornish" duh!!!!! and refers to people from other parts of the country as "grockels".......
Only thing is = said parent seems to be serious.....
No wonder I get confuzzled sometimes (ie confused).......LOL - as I'm just "British" personally...0 -
I have happy memories of children's parties when my kids were wee. The best was a Pirate Party in mid-summer. As I walked along the street towing my son and his pal (complete in wellies, eye patch, cutlass and a parrot) I heard the party before I saw it... and then I saw it.
Every window in a big two story house wide open and with wee boys hanging out. Or dangling out. Or throwing other wee boys out. And another 2 doz wee boys chasing each other round and round the house waving swords and screaming.
Fought my way inside dumping my contribution en route, to find the mums huddled terrified in the kitchen obviously being held hostage but at least they had found the booze. Which went down very well with violent navy blue cake. And left us with blue lips, a headache, and a hangover.0 -
Sounds like my kind of party, mardatha! One life - your life - live it!0

Sounds brilliant, mardatha
nursemaggie Ah, hadn't realised he already had work socks. (I didn't even know they existed until Lidl had them on offer once!) The walking socks sound much better for the blisters, poor lad. I hope they heal quickly now.
Enjoyed hearing about the IoW0 -
Nursemaggie,we have a Millets and a Trespass here if that's any help for the 25th? Also, I wear double layer walking socks to stop blisters, Matalan used to sell them but no longer however Tesco now do men's & ladies ones.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

TK Maximus are quite good for walking/skiing socks, etc.
Well I cycled to the farmers market, bought half a dozen eggs and got a free coffee! The horse box is fantastic, who would have thought you could have that much equipment in there. Glad I went when I did as it has been raining since I came home.
Mar - That party sounds a hoot, I've had many children's parties at home for my 3, I think the halloween one was the best, I didn't even know who half the children were! Everytime I thought I had cleaned up I saw something else like donuts hanging from picture frames and a pretend skull (well, I think it was pretend) in the fridge strategically placed at eye level! Mon Agra, you'd be surprised how little I can live with on a daily basis. As for the what ifs, they're in my handbag - 4 ibuprofen, 4 rennies, a few tissues, a pen and some money. I do wonder what is in other peoples hand luggage on flights, you see people hefting great duffel bags which they shove up into the lockers and take down multiple times in the flight. But you're provided with food, entertainment, toothbrushes and toothpaste, socks and pretty much anything is available if you ask, so I always wonder what's in there. Over and above what's normally in my handbag I take a book and my passports.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070
